Swelling on both sides of collar bone and flushing of face and neck

by Loreli, Apr 03, 2007 12:00AM
I hope a doctor reads this.  I was put on loratab and was given steroid shots, and oral steroids during first three weeks of March to treat sciatic pain caused from hern. disc.  About a week ago I noticed that my face and neck were bright red, and NOW I also have squishy lumps right above my collar bone, they are symmetrical. I have not had any medicine since March 21st which was my last steroid shot (160mg).  There is no itching, and no pain. I've been to dr. who keeps blaming this on meds. but I've been off of them.  The redness does not come and go.  It stays.  I have night sweats and urinate 2xs a night.  I'm afraid I have something serious that will be overlooked.  Does anyone know what this could be?  I have read some really bad things on the internet about lumps above the collar bone being a sign of a serious illness such as carcinoid syndrome, and other cancers.      Please anyone that knows what this could be, your advice will be greatly appreciated.  LSH

The lumps with the night sweats may be a sign of lymphoma. You need to get the lumps biopsied to see if this is what they are.

Thanks Deb.  Are you a doctor?  This stuff is making me crazy.  I just can't think that symptoms of cancer would suddenly pop up,  ie, one day fine the next day swollen squishy things on the top of my collar bone and turning red?  This all came on together and suddenly.  Anyway, thanks for taking the time to write back.  Blood work and other tests are supposed to be back tomorrow.  I will definitely follow through until I am completely satisfied that all is really okay.  Thanks, again.

Your blood tests could be normal. They are not the true indicator that a lymphoma may be present. No, I am not a doctor but have studied on lymphoma. I have a lymph node in my neck that has been palapable for over 1 year. I have done so much research. I hope things work out alright for you. Let me know.

I too have swollen squishy spots above my collar bones. It all came on after I was given a Quinolone by my non-trustworthy Doctor. I am deathly allergic to Quinolone which he was well aware of, though handed me packets of it to take for minor congestion. Along with the swelling above my collar bones I also have swelling in my neck, face, shoulder blades, and major pain in my tendons and a general weakness throughout my entire body, along with that I get sweats that just come and go. The medication was given to me back in May, and I feel a hundred times worse now from side effects that have affected my daily life a great deal. Since May I have been seen by 2 separate Doctor's one of which told me they were side effects and would sub-side in about a week, which would have been like 7 weeks ago, the other Doctor whom I've seen twice now ran major blood tests on me all of which came back excellant. Now he has me on an anti-inflammatory drug which I've been on for about a week now with no relief. He is unable to diagnose me thus far. I wish I knew what was really going on with me because I was perfectly healthy before I took the Quinolone drug.

I too have the same symptoms . Started a couple weeks age with the swelling, almost squishy lumps @ collar bone. Blood tests are normal. Also had a steroid shot one week before symptoms appeared. X-ray is normal. Going for ct tomorrow. No previous history to allergy to steroids, but was told this was a new medicine to relieve asthma.
