THYROID NODULES

my gp recently picked up that i may have a problem with my thyroid. so i was sent for blood tests. i was then told to go for a sonar. conclusion there was: two solid nodules- one within right and the other within left lobe of solid consistency. Thyroid isotope scan can be of value for further evaluation. so i had that done.conclusion - 1). no convoncing scintigraphic evidence of obvious hot or cold nodule in thyroid at present. however, there may be cold nodules in volving the lower poles of both thyroid lobes, especially on the right side but not entirely convincing. these need to be correlated with ultrasound and if they correspond to nodules noted on ultrasound, then FNA is indicated to rule out possible malignancy in a cold nodules. 2) please note that small nodules (less than 1cm) and posterior nodules may be missed on thyroid scan, therefore if the nodules noted on ultrasound are suspicious of possible malignancy although not noted on thyroid scan, it may be due to the above mentioned reasons, and FNA is still indicated. 3) the rest of the scintigram is more in favour of euthroid thyroid.

so my doctor gets this info, and says that i need to see a surgeon, visit the surgeon, and he says, wait 6 months before he does anything. i ask if this could be cancer, we will only know in 6 months. please help me understand this, is approach normal?should i get a second opinion?
