Thank you

I befriended a lonely old lady several years ago and have been her support (& her two little rescue dogs') through her hospitalizations with COPD and numerous bouts of pneumonia + lung cancer & radiation.  She had a masectomy many years ago as well as a major back surgery.  She lost her husband 13 years ago to lung cancer and she was depressed and "shut down" for many years.
Some of her lung cancer cells metastisized to her liver and bowels within several months.  She had surgery two weeks ago to reroute her bowels around a mass.  I visit her every day and she is just recovering from surgery.  Yesterday she was so good that I thought that she would be home in time for her 77th birthday on June 10.  Today when I saw her she seemed to have aged about 30 years overnight and was confused, frowning and not at all the person I had seen just 24 hours prior.  When I spoke to the nurse, she said in a kindly "Nurse Rached" sort of way..."Well, maybe her liver cancer has gone to her brain...liver cancer never lasts more than six months...I know, I watched my husband die of liver cancer."
I came home on got on the internet to try to learn more as to what to expect as a person dies of liver cancer.  This site has been a big help and I want to thank everyone who has posted over the last couple of years.  The information I have gathered from all of you will make this journey less of a surprise and I feel better equipped to help my friend in her final days/weeks.  Thank you all and I wish you well, Janis
