Vitamin A and Surgery

I AM HAVING SURGERY MONDAY FOR A SQUAMOUS CELL CARCINOMA ON MY TONGUE. THE SURGEON TOLD ME TO START TAKING VITAMIN A, WHICH WOULD HELP PREVENT LEUKOPLAKIA. I HAVE ALREADY STARTED TAKING IT, BUT I DIDN'T THINK TO ASK HIM IF I SHOULD BE TAKING IT BEFORE SURGERY, OR AFTER? I KNOW I'M NOT SUPPOSED TO TAKE VITAMIN E, ASPIRIN, IBUPROFEN, ETC., BUT I JUST WONDERED ABOUT THE VITAMIN A.
                                                         THANKS,
                                                                       BEVERLY
