What was the primary cancer

In 1967, my mom was diagnosed with cancer that was "everywhere in her body" (that is what the doctors said at the time.)  When they opened her up they found a open sore on her spleen.  She also had an extended abdomen that filled with peritoneal fluid and during the three months that she lived after the diagnosed they drained the fluid out of her on a regular basis.  My Mom had suffered for years with joint pain and constipation.  Because of the advancement of the cancer they could not determine a primary site.  Anybody have an idea where it may have started?  I have many health problems and I have lost 10 lbs suddenly without trying.  I am concerned that I may have cancer.  I have become extremely tired, have night sweats and alot of pain in my muscles and joints.  Maybe someone could give an idea of what original cancer my Mom had.  Any advice would be appreciated.  Thank you

Hi.
Your mom's cancer could have originated anywhere in her body, specially the gastrointestinal and genitourinary tracts, basing from the limited data that we have.  More common sites would be the ovaries, peritoneum, colorectum, liver, that can cause ascites (fluid in the abdomen).
It would be best for you to start screening for cancer, since you have a family history of cancer, and if you have risk factors to develop cancer. There are numerous cancer screening methods for each specific cancer site, namely breast, cervix, colon, etc.  Better consult your primary physician for these screening methods.
Good luck.

thanks for the help, andrew.  I have posted more about my condition under autoimmune diseases.  My primary has been on medical leave and so I have not been to him for a while.  I hope he is back soon because I don't feel comfortable going to anyone else.  He has been my doctor for 12 years and specializes in internal medicine.  thanks again for your comments.  This is the first time II have ever been in a forum and I can see that I may beable to get some guidance through those that respond.
