I am sorry to know about your husband’s health. Esophageal cancer is a very aggressive cancer. Treatment of stage 4 esophageal cancer usually includes chemotherapy, radiation therapy and surgical removal of the affected part of the esophagus. Unfortunately, once it has spread, especially to places like the liver, long-term survival is difficult. Cytotoxic chemotherapy is the most effective treatment modality for patients with metastatic disease. For symptoms such as nausea, pain, obstruction, perforation, or bleeding from a locally advanced or locally recurrent primary tumor a patient often requires multidisciplinary management using endoscopic, surgical, radio therapeutic or other approaches. It is best to clarify your doubts with the treating oncosurgeon.Do keep us posted.
Best of luck and kind regards!
