How are you? What other symptoms are present? Shallow breathing may also be due to respiratory or cardiac issues and may warrant further evaluation especially if there is presence of cough, history of asthma, copd or heart issues. Diagnostic tests that may help determine the underlying cause include arterial blood gas and pulse oximetry to check your oxygen level, chest x-ray, complete blood count (CBC) and blood chemistries, ECG and ventilation/perfusion scan of your lungs. Follow-up with your attending physician is also highly recommended. Treatment will depend on the underlying cause. Take care and do keep us posted.
