i noticed last summer a pea sized lump on middle left hand finger...not painful..whitish color..felt watery not hard...numb to touch...this year it has spread to just under nailbed..not as larger but rather flatter and wider..also my finger nail on this same finger is deformed...it has deep ridges. once in awhile there is hint of pain in whole area around lumps.. also seems finger nail is brittle, chippy just unhealthy nail. what does this sound like? first peasize bump is petruding from side of top joint of middle finger with second flatter bump just under nail bed. both lumps seem full of water but first peasized lump has gootten harder. i have a throid condition i take synthroid daily and i am trying to discover why my hip pains and i have burning painful feeling under left side of ribcage with pain radiating from left back side kidney area...should i dig a grave???
Hi. The best thing to do is to have yourself examined by a doctor (preferably an internal medicine specialist). There are so many possibilities as to what those lumps might be, and it's really hard for anyone in this forum to tell you with any certainty what those lumps are without having actually seen them. Those lumps could just be one of the more common non-cancerous conditions like ganglion cysts (cysts which occur as a reaction to repeated frictional forces in the hands and fingers), or warts. It could also indicate tophi (accumulations of uric acid crystals) in somebody with long-standing gouty arthritis. Infection is also a common cause of swollen lumps in the fingers. Cancer is another possibility (although it's probably remote), and should be ruled out.
