medastinal and hilar adenopathy a sign of cancer?

by joynhimdaddy, Apr 25, 2007 12:00AM
My wife had a living donor liver transplant for primary biliary cirrohsis (PBC) almost 4 years ago. She is 49 years old white female who is overweight by 50 lbs (due in part to taking massive steroids to get rid of ITP)but while constantly fatigues is otherwise doing ok. She is on Prograf as an immunosuppressant to protect the liver. She recently had a cold that went to a cough. She kept having this dry cough that effected her ability to talk. Her first X-ray was unremarkable. 2 weeks later there was abnormality in the lung X-ray and a CT scan showed the following "a development of a large amount of medastinal and hilar adenopathy. There is sme mass effect on the adjacet pulmaonary vasculature but no evidence of pulmonary embolism - ther area alos multiple pulmonary nodules that weere not seen on the last examination". There conclusion in the report was "lynphoproliferative disorder (which seem a big workd for something is worng with the lymph nodes) /lymphoma given history of her previous transplant. New pulmonary nodules suggests the possiblity of lymphoma or other metastic disease."" Our concern - is this hodgkins/non-hodgkins lymphoma and how can we tell without an invasively dangerous biopsy? What does the Porgaaf and liver transplant have to do with swollen Lymph glands

As you probably know, people who receive organ transplants and have been on immune suppressing drugs are at high risk of infections and lymphoma. Strongly consider getting a biopsy.
