i had an ultrasound done and my gyn stated that there is a large echogenic mass located rt fundus size is 6.4x6.5x7.0 , does anyone know what this means ? i mean i know i have a mass but what is the fundus what is a echogenic mass ? . thank you ! .............2young
Hi. The fundus refers to the dome-like top portion of the uterus. "Echogenic" refers to the ultrasound characteristics of the mass. It means that the mass is made up of a solid/dense material which tends to bounce off a lot of sound waves, and appears on ultrasound as a whitish opacity (fluid and fat tends to absorb ultrasound waves, and appears dark). So what your ultrasound report is saying is that a roughly 7 centimeter solid mass was seen on the top of your uterus. The exact natureNature-throid Natures tears of that mass (whether it's cancerous or not) is still undetermined at this point. You'll probably need a biopsy to do that.
