question about path report

question about path report

Ok I had a growth on the back mid thigh about 6months ago. In the last 2 months it grew to a good golfball size. Went to the doctor to have it removed thinking it was a simple cyst. The doctor informed me it wasnt a cyst after he began cuting into it. He gave me the option of having it surgicaly removed which I declined. Told him to do his best to cut it out. 2 weeks later I finally get the pathology report.

Granular cell tumor with atypical features. Positive for s100 protein and no labeling for a103 or hmb45. Notable histologic features include a relatively high mitotic rate (8 mitoses per 10hpf) and macronucleoli. There is conciderable histologic overlap between benign and malignant granular cell tumor, and givin the lack of necrosis, vascular invasion, pleomorphism, or spindle cell growth pattern I would classify this tumor as atypical and not frankly malignant. This tumor appeares to involve inked margins, re-excision would be advisable.

So my doctor wants me in surgery in 2 weeks to remove the rest of it and to be able to get muscle, soft tissue and something else to be tested. He is sending me to a specialist. If its not cancer, then why surgery. I hate surgery and how he explained I will loose a pretty big hole. He is sending in a plastic surgent after. Just exactley does this report mean????
My father passed away from CHF, but in his last 2 weeks his doctor told us he was covered in cancer, that he belived was started by a lump in his arm. Soft tissue sarcoma. My father did not belive in surgery and not much more in doctors.

anyone with any thoughts about what all the path means?? And anyone with info about this type of tumor. Does it grow through out the body? Since they are removing it from my leg, could it have spread through somewhere else eventhough its not cancer?
