really scared

by quintonmed, Jun 11, 2007 12:00AM
I am a 18 year old black male.  For a couple of yyears I have ben having these weird headaches.  They are only on the left side of my brain.  When they come they only last for a minute or so but when they come i virtually cant do anything. I have to clinch on my jaw just to releive some of the pain.  I'm scared that i might have a brain tumor. Has anyone ever had this or know what could cause it?  Thank you

We all think of the worst. I do. It could be migraine, tension headaches anything. I would call your doctor and tell them you have having these headaches so they can give you meds....

Hi, I had and still have sometimes, these same symptoms.  My doctor called them ice pick migraines.
The pain is in one spot, it stops you in your tracks, and you just hold your breath wondering if this is it until it passes.  I usually end up with a generalized headache around the area of the attack.
Can you look up ice pick migraines online and see if the symptoms fit yours.
My husband also gets these and they are frightening but we have had them all of our lives.  I am 40 and he is 32.
One more thing.  I had these attacks more back when I drank alcohol.  I'd have them more frequently, the day after drinking.
I would start a diary.  Write down what you ate the day you experience the pain and see if you can find a culprit in your diet.
But of course, talk to your doctor.

They could also be cluster headaches, which cluster periods could last as long as three years.
