I recently had a bilateral masectomy with reconstruction and my sentinal nodes were not effected.  My cancer type  was classified unfaverable nuclear grade.  Only one of my breasts were effected and there were many micro calcifications.   It was suggested by an oncologist that tamoxofin might help prevent by a small precent but there is an increase of ovarian cancer.  The option to take this drug is up to me and I need to know what I need to know in order to make this decision.

Hi,
If you had DCIS (ductal carcinoma in situ), then you will derive some definite benefit from tamoxifen. It is recommended that women with DCIS take tamoxifen, even at the cost of a slight risk of deep vein thrombosis and a slightly increased risk of cancer of the uterus.
All the best, and God Bless!
