xrays and cancer risk

I recently went to a chiropractor for the first time. Before my first session the receptionist took 15 xrays of my neck, chest and back. She was only suppose to take four, however, she kept "messing up" and needed to repeat each xray several times. What are the possible health problems that could arise from such exposure? Specifically, what is the cancer risk?

There is a risk of developing a malignancy with a single x-ray, and with additional x-rays the risk increases.

Does that mean a person should refuse x-rays?

No.

There is a risk benefit, and the x-ray is sometimes necessary.

As a means of diagnosing a spinal problem the x-ray is obsolete and an MRI is appropriate. Chiropracters often have second-hand machines that are improperly calibrated and produce higher than normal levels of x-ray.

I certainly would not return to that chiropracter.

That being said, I wouldn't lose sleep over four extra x-rays.

Just be more careful in the future.
