How does someone go about living in a nursing home?

by qtarsusy, Mar 02, 2009 03:21AM
I recently had my dad placed in a nursing home, becuz it was clear he no longer could funtion at home. After seeing the way he is living, I, too would like to live in a home, just not the one he does. Dad's is a low budget one without air conditioning. He gets his meals made for him, laundry done, no clean up at all. Housekeeping even takes care of his hideous plants. I'm getting up there in age myself.(53) and i'm thinking this might be what i need. Dad has his own wheelchair n the nurses actually push him to dinner. no work for him at all. They even give him a bath n he doesnt need to lift a finger. Man, i would love that. What r the requirements to live in a nursing home in west virginia?

I have a aunt in a nursing home.  She is 76, looks 86 and has demential and has to have everything done for her. A nursing home is a place, where senors, who no longer can care for themselves and need assistance 24 hrs. are sent to.  I find them very depressing and senior are cared for like small children (must be feed, bath, helped walk, helped with bath room needs, etc.) since the no longer can function as they did once and they become very depress depending on someone to bath them, feed them. They get very lonley and I personally find it to be a sad, final stop for a human being.  They are taken care of, because they no longer have the physical or mental capacity as they did once to make basic decisions. There are many nursing home that are really nice if paid privately and have the family to be there always, but if paid by the state, they are at the mercy of everyone else and that's sad.  You would not want to live in a nursing home, because it is not an easy ride, free, fun place just to be taken carei f you are an able, capable person who  is rational, capable of working and can care yourself. The requirements are elderly (53 does not qualify you as elderly unless you have dimentia (dementia) or can't take care of yourself any more).  It is the final stop for elderly.
