That's good to know. I appreciate your help.
No, the issue isn't IBD. Her blood work showed increased BUN level which Azodyl claims to address specifically. Also, she was on antibiotics for UTI so probiotics could be helpful.
I'll keep those products in mind.
Sorry I can't find any references to Brand names, I am quoting from a holistic book I have by Sandy Arora and Regina Schwabe DVM
all it states is store bought probiotics must have the phrase 'contains active cultures'.can also use fermented products such as Kefir
OR 'supplements' containg lactobacillis, acidophilis or bifidobacterium or both.
the pet friendly supplement product brand names they quote are:
dr. goodpet-feline digestive enzymes with acidophilis (i can't find a distributor for this brand?)
or Petguard-high potency digestive enzymes with acido and bifidus bacteria
I found the distributor on www.petguard.com
with supplements rather than fresh shipping wouldn't pose a problem.
apparently some quote that these dairy free products are better for cats. again this is only what I read I have no personal experience wtih using.
I did read in her book that cats with IBD ( I assume thats kitty's problem?)
and constipation issues do well with canned pumpkin added to their diet.
I don't know if all this was any help to you or not? but I hope so.
Thanks for the welcome and for taking the time to help! Is there a recommended specific human brand that someone had good results with on a feline?
A couple of human probiotics I've shopped do have Azodyl's strains, but also additional strains. I haven't found one that isolates only those. I wonder if somene has insight into whether some human strains are NOT friendly to cats. She recently had an infection, so I'd hate to think I was deliberately feeding her feline UNfriendly bacteria.
Thanks again.
I am also perplexed about why Azodyl's ingredients are listed as "E" thermophilus (KB 19) and not "S."
Good day.
hi and welcome to our cat forum, I hope we can help you with some answers.
yes you can use human yogurt(probiotics) from the human health food stores.
look for the phrase "contains active cultures"
or can use probiotic supplements containing lactobacillus, acidophiles, or bifidobacterium or both.
hope this helps
