Any ideas for me about a stray kitty

Any ideas for me about a stray kitty

My Tweety doesnt like this cat so I cannot give it a home even if the dh wanted another cat .Last couple of months a really lovely, all black, kitty, young, very friendly has been hanging out around my house, now she is trying to come in , its causing a big disturbance with Tweety and the DH  who would really like a dog . My dilemma is ..how I hate dilemmas , what should I do with this kitty, animal shelter will take her , if I take her in, but they say they cannot guarantee that she would get a home, and we all know what happens if they can't. I just cannot bear the thought that I may be taking her to her doom .I would let her be ..but she is trying to come in it makes it all very complicated .I think she and another came from a nearby home, thats what they seem to do they get cats , as kittens and they are toys for the children , as they get big they dump them .Any ideas guys..anyone in CA want a lucky black cat ?thank you .

I'm not in CA but I would love a black cat(another) do you know black ones are the hardest to get homes for b/c of this silly superstition!!................don't want to add to your dilemma.
You know what I would do is get it fixed IF your finances allow and than keep it as an outside cat, I know thats not the best solution but IMO better than a shelter. Do you have friends perhaps that would love a kitty?...♥

the people round here dont make friends too well... I assumed she had been fixed as she is so docile and I haven't seen her fat at all , shes been hanging around a while, but that maybe what I will have to do , we are going to be moving next spring so I would have to leave her the Dh wont take her that's for sure even if he let her hang outside .I will take her to the vet, as she may need shots and they will tell me if shes fixed . No I didnt know folks aren't keen on black cats ..wow I always heard they were lucky ,thank you opus ..

yes your right in folklore they ARE/were supposed to be lucky, but somehow over time that got all turned backwards and now the perception is they are bad luck, at least here in Canada...and thats so unfortunate for these poor little ones, I've had many black cats...even now I have Nemo...I think their beautiful and would take another in just due to the fact that so many are euthanized by this silly superstition...bless your kind heart Margy..♥

found this Margy....seems there are many myths....but oh 'chasing a black cat away from your house, is supposed to be bad luck..' may have to talk dh into letting it inside!!!

i had  similar problem,, i have a all black cat called squeak her mum is a stray who lives in my garden along with a few other cats,, i too worried about getting them removed and giving them to the cat pertection league incase they were to ferral or not homed,, i recently phoned them about one of my cats being spayed and mentioned the strays they said they tend to catch them test them for illness if healthy they neuter and release them back where they caught them,, they also take a v shape out the top of the ear so if its caught again they know its been done but you need to be 100% its not owned by someone else,, best of luck

I don't think its owned but its hard to tell its a rural area and so many neglected and stray animals ,my other was a stray , I had her fixed and shots, exam as soon as we decided to keep her .we shall see, shes hanging around my front porch a lot today, Tweety ran her off twice but seems to have given up ...oh brother, rambo you dont happen to live in CA and want another kitty do you ?

im the type that would take in all the strays,,, i currently have 6 cats and unfortunately out of all my cats i didnt get 1 done in time so she has just had 3 kittens which thankfully i have found homes for , for when there ready she is staying in till she is done (she just happens to be my all black cat), i was adviced to ask around and if no one claimed it then to phone them about the strays although i know they are as the mum has lived in my garden for 3 years now and i have 2 of one of her litters,,,maybe you can see if there are any shelters in your area that dont euthinise i know there are some,,,or find a place that is happy to do her and return her,, it wont help with her hangiing around but least there wont be any unwanted kittens i can have a look online for you,,

Do you have a Humane Society near you that is taking cats?  They have a no kill policy, leastwise in the state where I live.  That's where I got our cat from, a Humane Society.  Plus, if the cat in question has an implanted micro-chip, I think they should be able to help you with finding out who the cat is supposed to belong to, if it does & provided one's implanted.  They implanted a micro-chip in Catalina & keep our address info. on file in case she ever gets lost, etc..

Public (i.e. tax funded) shelters are what are called open intake shelters, meaning they are required by law to take in any animal within their jurisdiction.  Private (i.e Humane Society, ASPCA, etc.) shelters can simply refuse to take animals if they are full. The public shelter where I work has a policy where when requested they will contact the finders before euthanizing for space to give them an opportunity to take the animal back if it is not adopted and we no longer have space.

You might also want to contact your local animal control office.  In many jurisdictions, abandoning pets is illegal and punishable by fines and removal of remaining pets.  If this cats are coming from a neighbor that is doing this, then even a warning from the ACO may make them stop this cycle of getting kittens and then abandoning them.

I am not certain how to handle it now the dh isn't going to have another kitty, this little one is on my porch a lot now and my porch smells which doesn't please him .I have called around and if I get him fixed etc I may be able to get him into a cattery ..I hate the idea of sending him anywhere , why have they got that way of gazing into your eyes pleadingly .'take me in, take me in'...

il be honest no idea what dh stands for im assuming your partner ??? im unsure if it is feral as most cats that are will do everything they can to avoid us humans might be worth seeing if your neighbours know where he came from or if he does have a home, i had a cat thats sadly passed now that would eat breakfast at mine hop the fence go get fed there then over the fence again to the next neighbour and get fed again he had a few homes unfortunately because he was being given more then just cat biscuits down the road he came home less and less till he never came home they said he was stray but the sad thing was after months of looking after him they soon remembered where he came from once hed been hit by a car :-(
i'd assume if your dh wants a dog thatll be a cat friendly  cause of your cat but is your cat dog friendly ??? can see the dilemma with moving aswell because if you get him done then allow him to stay in the garden then youve no idea what the next occupants will do with him,,, i do sympathise with you,, best of luck whatever you decide to do im sure it will be the righ thing

Hi,
DH is your dear husband? If so,let me tell you a little story, my husband was protested years ago about letting a stray cat in , a long story short , the cat became my granddaughter personal cat, (we had other cats) when she moved out, we moved also, my HB suggested to take that cat to the shelter, I told him ,no way, so the smart cat decided will made him to like her. Now that cat is his cat. Haha. He used to be a dog person.:)
Hope the little black cat will bring a good luck to you!!

You could put an ad on craigslist or facebook to see if anyone wants a cat. I looked at these places when I was looking for a new cat.
