Broken fang has to be pulled

Broken fang has to be pulled

Hi all,

We just got back from the vet where Jade had her check-up and blood work.  Her weight is only 8lbs 13oz.  I thought she was more so this was good to hear.  We have to wait 'til tomorrow for word on the blood work and if all is well, she will have her teeth cleaned and her front fang pulled on Friday.  She came to us with her fang already broken and the vet thinks it would eventually abscess so the best thing is to pull it.

ZQ----I did ask about Diabetes and Thyroid and these tests are included in the blood work, so that's good.

I have never had a cat that needed a tooth pulled.  This is a big one, so I'm sure it's going to hurt!  Was wondering if anyone has had a cat that needed an extraction and if so, what was your experience?

Thanks in advance! :)

Good Lord!!!  What in the world did Jade get into that broke her tooth???  Jade must be a big goof ball!!  =D  Or, shall I say....a NOT so big goof ball!!  I can't believe that Jade is a nice svelte 8 lbs!!!  LOL  I swear, I thought she was over 10 lbs!  The camera must have added some lbs to her!

I've had cats that have needed extractions.  Everything went smoothly, and I'm sure they were happy campers that the teeth were gone!  Broken teeth hurt and are very sensitive to hot and cold.  Jade will be fine!  If you have any specific questions about extractions, let me know!

BTW, that is great that your vet includes diabetes and thyroid tests in the blood work.  Mine doesn't!!!  A blood panel alone is $170.  The other 2 tests are separate!  How much does your vet charge?

Jade,

Let us know what they said when they call you. Don't worry. Jade will be a'right. Cats have an amazing ability to adapt to new body conditions - such as being three legged etc. With love (which she is given plenty) and attention, she will recover in a second!

Keep us posted.
Hugs!

PK  :)

ZQ-----Jade came to us with a broken fang and like you, I've wondered how in the world a cat breaks a fang!?  lol...I told you guys she's all tummy with little short legs so she looks heavier than she is.  Her skin is very "loose" and, hmm...how to describe...if you look at my pics closely, especially the very last one "showing her tummy" you can see that her skin kind of falls to the side and "drapes" the ground.  She is a very unusual cat.  Very short legs and you can only tell she has a neck because her collar defines it.  Without her collar, it looks like she has no neck and her head just runs into her body.  That's ok.  All part of her charm :)

I'm very concerned today.  Yesterday, she got a Rabies shot and a FVRCP Booster.  The second is distemper?  She has not moved a muscle since she curled up in a chair in the backyard last night at 7:30.  Not a muscle.  Vet says she's could be sore from the vaccines?  We are waiting for the blood results and would have had the dental procedures done tomorrow, but now, with the way she's acting, I'm thinking it all might be too much and we should wait until next week for the dental.

ZQ...blood panel came to $125 so it looks like we are lucky to have such a reasonable vet.  I was pretty sure her prices were on the low side.  Since Jade needs a tooth pulled, it looks like this whole thing will definitely come to $700.  That's okay though.  I've been hoarding money for months to pay for this.

PK----thank you so much for your well wishes :) ♥

Does her total lethargy sound normal for the vaccines she got?

Thank you everyone, for caring :)

I just received a call from my vet and she said Jade's blood work looks perfect!  Whew, good news.  Money well spent!

She is however, concerned as well, that Jade is so lethargic today and agrees we should put the dental surgery off until next week.  Wants to see Jade tomorrow if she doesn't improve.  She's improved already though and has moved out of her chair and into the middle of yard since my last post.  I took her some wet food and she ate a tsp full, but that was all.

Poor Kitty :(

I'm very happy that Jade's blood work was perfect!  YAYYYY!  That's wonderful news--I know that you are thilled!  My 16 yr old Skunkie has good blood work too.  SO, I know how happy you are about it!  =D

It is normal for a cat to be lethargic, and kind of blah when they get vaccinated.  It upsets me and stresses me out, too.  I hope that she's acting better now!  Sometimes it takes a day or two.  Be patient, she'll be fine!

Thank you!   The vet herself called and whenever the doctor calls personally, it's usually bad news, so the phone call scared me at first, but yes, I'm thrilled!  Those shots just knocked my girl right out for a full 24hrs though.  I'm not sure who was more stressed, me or her, lol.  She only ate if I took her food to her and just the fact that she would eat, I knew, was a good sign.

She's not 100% yet, so I put off the dental appt until next Fri.  I thought it would be way too much stress for her all at once, with the reaction to the vaccines and all.

Thank you again for your support.  I love this forum! :)

Honey, some kitties experience awful side effects from vaccination. It is the sam as humans. I would feel feverish and exhausted after shots when I was younger while my cousin was out playing like nothing had happened. I'm glad she is fine and this is all behind you. Please let me know how the cleaning goes, ok?

we love your girl hon :)

Thank you, PK.  I'm going to check out the "Revolution" too.  I just bought a 6pk of Advantage, but I'm sure they'll let me return it.  So happy that Savas posted about this product...it sounds good, and the fact that you use it too and are pleased, really seals the deal for me! :)
