Cat Bite!

Yesterday I was giving our kitties their flea drops (the dog goes outside and brings the beasties in with him even though he gets the drops too) and one of the kitties wasn't appreciative.  Anyway, he gave me a nasty bite on my thumb and all the medicines in the house say not to put them on animal bites.
Is there anything else I should be doing for my wound besides band-aids?
thanks so much.

Gross--- Dog breath and slobber- now I know why I love my cats so much- although Taz can knock you over with his breath when he yawns- NASTY

It's more fun to play fetch with my cat- she doesn't slobber as much.

...I would never have guessed that a dog's mouth is cleaner from the smell. :)

If it's so clean, why is it when we play catch with them, we pick up the slobbery tennis ball with only the tips of two fingers, then wipe them furiously on our pants?!?!

Make sure your tetanus shots are up to date as well.  A cat bite is a puncture wound, not to mention that cats have a LOT of bacteria in their mouths, their mouths are not clean like a dog's.  Flush the wound with peroxide and try to keep the wound from closing up on the outside.  A puncture wound should heal from the inside out to make sure it doesn't get closed up where a pocket of infection could form.

Ah, try to keep it uncovered after the bleeding stops, it's best to leave it opeb to air.

Use hydrogen peroxide after a bite. The biggest problem is, of course infection. If it does develop infection I'd see a doctor.
