Cat Urine Ordor - What to use

by Kimbr7, May 01, 2007 12:00AM
My cat has been spraying in our new carpeted basement.  Does anyone know what to do to get this up.  We have tried it seems like everything.  We finally had to give him up to another family who does not have kids.  We even rented a rug doctor and that did not get it.  He was going on the same place multiple times and if we use a black light I can find it, but nothing seems to be getting it up.  My entire finshed basement smells.  HELP!! Anyone have any good ideas??  It will need to be kid friendly because it is right in my daughters play area.

Thanks!!

There is a product at the major pet supermarket type stores I have used in the past with great success. I can't remember the name, but it is in the aisle with litter & scoops. It is a round white bottle, like a shampoo bottle and has a big O on it. I'm sorry I can't remember the name :( A stray got trapped in our garage and sprayed everything and it took it all out.

You could try Feliaway. I got it thru Foster's and Smith's mail order catalogue. It is supposed to stop certain behaviors like spraying, and scratching. I put it on my couch and my cat who had previously shredded it just walked away. It was amazing. Anyway, you can google it.

Use WHITE VINEGAR!!!!  I use vinegar in the litter box and it takes all the ordor away (after I scoop out).  I use lots of vinegar and little water to wash the floor and straight vinegar to spray on furniture where the cat sprayed.  Non toxic to animals.

I have used white vinegar and Nature's Miracle. You have to keep using it because the first day the cat will still be able to smell the amonia. These products usually last about a week to get rid of the smell.
