Cat scabbing, balding and vomiting

My cat has recently began ripping her hair out in the last week. She is an indoors cat mostly, but she has slipped outside a few times, as well. We live in the country. In the last week, she has been ripping her hair out and now has large bald patches (some are bleeding and scabbing). Tonight she vomited her food on the kitchen floor. Does this sound familiar to anyone? I'm very concerned.

this is very likely due to allergies..either food or airborne. I will send include a site with some info on food allergies......I will also include a recent posting and a link on a reply I gave very recently to another poster.
I would start with the food particualary if you are feeding dry kibble...cats are very allergic to the grains(carbs) and they are loaded with it.
I don't like using steroids unless absolutely necessary b/c they only treat the symptoms and not the underlying problem. they also can cause many other health problems like diabetes.
You don't need to buy the expensive prescription foods, just try changing to a can food preferably one without grains...but start with any canned food, trying to stay away from chicken ....try beef or fish(temporarily) or vension if kitty will eat that one....chicken is also a common allergen.
try that, and try changing to a more natural litter....
keep us posted, let me know how these changes work....also stop using all chemicals in the house. but I'm probably repeating myself...just read on. and reply back. good luck

hi again, some kitties dislike drinking from their bowls for some reason, some prefer to drink from a leaking faucet...my one kitty used to sit in the bathtub until I would find him there, I'd turn on the tap and let it run slowly and he'd lap it up...but would never drink from his bowl either. try that since she seems to like the porcelain fixtures.
you can also try a kitty fountain...avail at pet stores some like those and say it encourages them to drink.

yes keep trying can foods not the dry kibble, purina has had many problems with some of their foods as well.

I wouldn't use the pet wipes...they are loaded with chemicals that she sure  doesn't need. to wipe her if you so wish just use a damp cloth...keep everything as natural as possible to eliminate all chemicals. good luck♥

Thank you. I was actually wondering if it might be her food. I adopted her about a year ago from the local ASPCA. She had only ever lived at the shelter. She started out eating Iams, but I switched her to Purina because she wouldn't eat the Iams for almost two days. So, she started eating the Purina Indoor Cat food. Another strange thing she does- she will go days without drinking from her water bowl. I've purchased several bowls for her to see if the bowl was the actual problem. I've caught her licking in the bathtub and sinks. About a month ago, I purchased those little wet cat food containers from Purina. She seemed to like them at first, but now she doesn't. I would gladly purchase anything she needs, I just can't seem to figure out what it is yet. I feel awful because she is the one suffering while we play this game-of-elimination. She's a sweet-natured gentle soul. I don't want to drug her up with steroids or anything else. I wipe her with these soothing wipes I found at the pet store. She doesn't have an aversion to it. Anyway, thank you for the information. It is appreciated and I will see if I might be able to find anything that will help. Thanks again.

here is more info to read abt diets...DOES NOT NEED TO BE RAW...this pertains to just getting a cat OFF dry food....cans are very good too....but of course raw is the best if you are willing to do alot of research and preparation.
when switching from dry to cans do the transistion slowly so not to cause a GI upset such as diarrhea....lots of other reading if you need more info..
