Catamount Grange update
Hey all;
Looks like we will closing on the house on 26 September. Teia, Hildie and Chessie will have 4 bedrooms, a big downstairs, a finished basement and a large, fenced in yard to call home soon.
Took them in today for their annual checkup and shots. Maryland allows the 3 year rabies and distemper vaccines.
Miss Hildie went first, as she's been to this clinic before. We had a different vet than the previous visits. She and the tech were both very engaging and concerned for the girls' well being. Hildie did very well, put up very little fuss. Vet thinks she is doing fine with the lower insulin dose (2 1/2 units twice a day), may lower it if her fructosamine test comes back good. Her weight is 17#, a little portly, but not too bad.
Miss Teia was next, as she's come such a long way. Again, very little fuss. She seemed to enjoy the attention and protested not once. Nice comment on how soft and healthy her fur is. Teia is 11#, which the vet said is a good weight for her size and age. Teia was a plum shaped kitty when we took her in, almost 19#, way, too heavy. Got to keep a sharp eye on her when we exit the apartment, Missy T really likes going Outside now.
Miss Chessie went last, wanted to let the Feliway do its job. When I made the appointment, the receptionist gave me a Feliway sample to wipe down the inside of her carrier. Chessie did not do too badly, complained and hissed a bit. They were even able to get a blood sample (which may have been too small, will deal with that if needed with a sedated trip) without sedation, but were very impressed with how strong she is, and how smart (did a move they'd not expected to try and avoid the blood sampling). At 18#, there is a little concern, so they'll check her thyroid enzymes. Vet is also going to research some calming things (like Feliway) we can use to help Chessie (and the other girls).
All in all, not a bad day.

I was born 31 October 1319 at my father's farm near Loch Shin a little north of the town of Lairg. My mother's father was a Welsh wool merchant who traveled to Scotland in 1318 with his family, but returned there (minus my mother, Gwynedd) in 1324.
Gwynedd was my father Carbrey's second marriage. He was a widower with 4 other children. My father died during the summer of 1324 after being gored by a bull. My oldest half brother inherited the farm and was not friendly to his step mother and her halfbreed children staying around.
Kenneth did pay for my mother, me and my little sister Linette to return to her family in Corwen, Wales, as well as endowing her with a good inheritance from his wealth. My half-brother Graeme accompanied us as bodyguard with several other clansmen to bulk up the party. My grandfather hosted them for 2 full weeks in thanks and sent them home on one of his ships.
I was taught the skills of a proper member of the landed gentry, which his wealth had bought him into, including sword and bow.
In 1336, I became a man at arms to my grandfather's lord, and eventually entered the service of Edward of Woodstock (later known as the Black Prince).
I fought under his banner until the Treaty of Brétigny in 1360, joining a band of mercenaries thereafter. We fought for pay in southern France and wandered along to Italy.
In 1364, we were engaged as civic guardsmen in the city of Pisa. I saved the life of a fellow who turned out to be a wealthy ship owner. He offered me a job as his personal bodyguard at higher pay and less danger.
After a few years, I had enough money to return home, buy a farm and marry.
My farm is known as Catamount Grange, for I love the wildcats that share the hill and forest with me as I walk.

Doc Feldhaus called. Everyone's blood work looked good. No one has thyroid problems nor any other concern.
Hildie has a slightly elevated liver number, but the vet checked the record and says it is the same (within a couple points) as when Doc Knilans did the work last year and Doc Langford did it earlier this year, so she thinks it is just a normal reading for Hildie. (Like me and my high bilirubin.)
Also, Hildie's sugar looks good, recommends staying at the 2 1/2 twice a day and do the fructosamine test again in 6 months.
Hildie is squirreling right now and, uncharacteristically, Teia decided to chase her around. They are running full tilt, with no hisses.
Teia's blood work looked perfect, though she needs to have her lower back teeth extracted (readsorption the vet called it)...would be done on an out patient basis.
Even Chessie, tubby as she is, no points of concern. Dr Feldhaus has a calmative she researched to help Chessie over white coat fever. Will talk it over with her.
She also recommended a new anti-flea treatment, which will help ward the girls from heartworm, which can be a problem here in cats.

I knew when I saw the title of the post who posted this. How wonderful that you're getting the house very soon.
I'm very glad that the trip to the vet went so well. It sounds like you found a great vet. It's encouraging that Teia lost so much weight. That's wonderful for her. Eleven pounds is definitely a major improvement. I bet she feels better, too. It sounds like the girls were reasonably tolerant of the vet visit.
