Could my cat be carrying....something?

Just got a new kitty, 5 mo. old now.  He was born in an old attic in a litter of 5 and another litter of 5 born at the same time.  So he was used to playing rough.  Over the past few weeks I've had him he has scratched and bit my hands in a playful way but each time it has caused me severe itchiness at the site.  Wnen I got him neutered 2-3 wks. ago, I had the vet trim and disenfect his claws.  I thought that would take care of the problem but I continue to get the itching and little whelp marks everywhere he scratches and bites. Does anyone out there have any idea what this could be?

It sounds like you could be allergic to his saliva??  I saw your question during a google search, and that was one of the suggestions.  Have you reacted to bites and scratches like this from the first?

Opus, thanks for the info on cat scratch fever...I did have it when I was 4 so I'm not sure if I could get it again.  I guess i better check on that.

Jade, I think the allergy to his saliva would be totally possible.  I don't know if there would be a test for that. I'll check with the vet.

Linda....don't want to scare you but it may possibly be 'cat scratch disease'...and you best be tested..needs to be treated with antibiotics.

Have you changed something you use on the carpet or bedding?  Something you might be allergic to?

Histoplasmosis is internal and he would be obviously sick- or so I think.  My poor Tazzy had it and it was horrible.

Does anybody on here have any suggestions.  I know he was tested for the Feline Leukemia Virus but what about other tests, like histoplasmosis or fungal?
