Dog vaccine given to my cat

I have a six year old Tort named Mija.  I've had her since she was rescued at 4 weeks.  I took her to the Vet yesterday for the first time since 2004.  I wanted to get her looked over and discuss what vaccines the Vet thought she might need given her sedentary, indoor lifestyle.  The Vet recommended rabies and upper respiratory disease vaccine.  We discussed the pros and cons of giving her so many vaccines at one time as well, and decided that it would be okay.

So the Vet administers the vaccines and begins putting the vaccine labels in Mija's file and says "oops".

"Opps?"

She proceeds to tell me that she accidentally gave Mija the upper respiratory vaccine for canines...

I look at her incredulously.  "You injected my cat with a dog vaccine?"

She proceeded to explain to me that when she had done this before (?!?) that she did research and found that no ill effects should come to my cat.

Now I can understand we all make mistakes - at my job, I transpose numbers occasionally.  You know?  But as a Vet - a doctor - isn't she supposed to know better?  How can she mistake canine vaccine for feline vaccine?

My ire aside - I'd like to ask of the forum for thoughts and opinions.  What should I do?

Mija seems normally lethargic from just having vaccines.  I can tell she doesn't feel good - but I don't know what is normal not feeling good and if she is reacting negatively.

If Mija was your cat, what would you do?

that vet that did that was not thinking through about how it would hurt Mija.

I'm happy to know you get a new vet  and Mija is doing well ( btw, her name would be cause of jokes here cos is a word for pee in portuguese - but I know in spanish can be a contracted form of mi hija ( my daughter)

understand that people do make mistakes. although this is no excuse, keep in mind things get hectic and very busy. A doctor of all people should not be making this type of mistake but thankfully it will not harm ur dog. Vet techs are the ones who draw the vaccines BUT the DOCTOR should always read the label before in jecting anything! you mentinoned that this was not the frist time the dr has done this. in that case, its time for a new vet

I can't believe this vet did this and admits to doing this before. Please find a new vet. If it was me I would be calling other vets and asking them if this is ok and what could happen if anything.
Good luck.

OMG!!  I would be so highly PO'd.  I would get a second opinion, if not a third.  And, I would find a new vet.  That was an unforgivable mistake!  Seriously, that is totally unacceptable.  PLEASE find a new vet!

You can try to get a second opinion on the Ask A Vet Forum also under the pet forums.  I would be interested in learning about this too, since I've never heard of an idiot doing this before!
