Euthanizing..

you know how they make those videos in the slaughter houses that show how the cows and pigs die and its really graffic and alot of the time that gets people to stop eating meat..
well i had an idea to make a really graffic video of shelters and the euthanizing room. I have to deal with it everyday when i go to work at the humane society and typically isnt on peoples mind to get there pets fixed, maybe a video like this would urge them to do that? also for people that breed pit bulls and labs *sigh*.
I hate it, i get attached to these animals that have absolutly nothing wrong with them, all they want is love and for the fact that people keep giving there animals away to the shelter and it gets to be way overcrowded..we HAVE to do it.
I cry all the time over it, when i see a dog go back to the euthanizing room and hes wagging his tail becuz he is so excited he is getting out of his cage and getting attention from people and then to just get a stab.

PLEASE FIX YOUR PETS AND SPREAD THE WORD ON FIXING YOUR ANIMAL.

This makes me so sad! :) I don't know how you do it either. I don't know if I could work in that environment.
This is why I adopted my dog and cat from the Humane Society.
They were getting ready to put my cat to sleep because they thought she was pregnant! I had looked at her and asked if I could come back after awhile thinking about it and the lady told me that she probably shouldn't tell me but if I wanted her I'd better get her now because they were getting ready to put her to sleep. Then they told me that she'd have to get an abortion. That's right, right in front of my little girl-they used that word! My little girls eyes got so big! I was so mad. They were just so uncaring I thought. So they had to take her to the vet to "get fixed and abort the kittens" after I adopted her and told me I could pick her up from there. See, they didn't even trust me to do it myself. I was praying and crying on my way to pick her up from the vets, asking God to please not let her be pregnant. I just couldn't stand the thought of them killing the babies. Well, God answered my prayers! Not only was she not pregnant, but after opening her up they discovered she had already been fixed! Can you believe that! How in the world could they have missed that?! I thought there were vets at the Humane Society. They thought she was pregnant all based on the fact that she had a little bit of a tummy, which I heard they tend to get after they're fixed anyway. So, this poor cat had to be put under and cut into before they realized that?! I was so mad. I couldn't believe the stupidity. Anyways, I'm glad I saved her. She's been the best cat I've ever had! She's just so sweet, affectionate and pretty. She was only 2 years old too when I adopted her. And to think, they were getting ready to put her down all on an assumption!

As for my dog, I always go for the underdog! He was very timid. It looked like he might have been hit by a previous owner. He was brought back to the Humane Society because he'd been in a dog fight (not his fault. The other dog bit him). He just looked so pitiful that my heart went out to him and I adopted him. I didn't think anyone else would! Like I said, I tend to go for the underdog! :) It took almost a year to get him to trust us and grow comfortable with us. We've now had both animals for about 7 years. I wish I could adopt more and save more! I really do!

I hope people that are reading this post will consider adopting their animals from a shelter. They can bring you such joy. Some of the animals might have some behavioral problems (like peeing in the house) but if you have the patience to work with them, they will make wonderful pets. We had some problems with our dog at first but no longer. And my cat has just been wonderful since the beginning!  It's worth it to save one life.

This is, unfortunately a massive problem. I'm from England and most pet charities will never put a healthy pet down, but the shelters are completely overrun and often the animals are living in cramped conditions until they are rehomed simply because there just isn't enough space.
I think that it's terrible that healthy cats and dogs are being put down simly because ignorant owners don't have their pets fixed. It seems that far too many people ignorantly obtain pets.

And that is the exact reason why "Animal Friends" has split from the "Human Society"...
They were putting down animals for "Stupid Reasons"...Not because they were deadly sick or anything like that, but simply because they cats are black, or pregnant, or over the age of 4!

The video would be a good idea, but you need to watch-Legally...you could get into many problems!
I dont think most people understand what is really going on behind closed doors!
In our area they use 'the gas chainber'...
and i will not got into detail because it makes most sick! I had to watch it...and i have a very strong stomach...and i litterally threw it!
Its not a shot that just makes them fade off and go to sleep!
It is a small box that is hooked up to the back of a car, or whatever else creates carbon dioxiode.
The cat or dog litterally goes 'insane' (it is manitory to have a window in the box to make sure "Nothing Goes Wrong"-Yea, ok!)..

Anyways, this is a majoy reason why i stress the fact of spaying and neutering! People complain because of the money-if you dont have the money to get your pet fixed, then you shouldnt have a pet) Because that is what happens to defenceless animals because of irresponsible owners!

You just made me cry. I have 2 dogs that I love as my children. I love animals. I cannot imagine this. This is so unfair to these beautiful creatures who only want to be part of our lives and receive love. I HATE people who think animals are disposable. They have feelings and want to give/receive love. I wish there was something I could do to help all of these animals. :(

I don't know how you handle it either, i just cried my eyes out reading your posts, you sound like such a lovely person who really cares about these animals.  Your job must be absolutely heart wrenching  We need more people like you to bring this out in the open.

If you feel in your heart that this is wrong then you should do a documentary,  you could really change things around how people treat animals.  It only takes one person to change the way many people think.  Most people probaby don't know that it goes on.

God bless you!!

Yeah i dont really mind breeders if its like english bulldogs and stuff because i have never seen an english bulldog at a shelter before and there not overpopulated. But its when people start breeding Labs and pit bulls that i hate.
Yesterday there was a pit bull on a leash connected to the cages so he was out in the isle and i started to pet him and play with him cuz he was just so sweet and giving me kisses and stuff and i was even thinking about taking him with me to try to adopt him out cuz he was so nice and then i walk back in the euthanizing room to see him waiting in line..my heart just sunk and i had to get out.
I dont do the euthanizing, and i try to avoid it as much as i can but i had to help this girl open a door in there and i saw him and about 10 cats.. :((((
Im going to ask my boss soon if i can do a documentary on shelters.

...Wait, I don't want to sound like a hypocrite....I have to admit that all my life my parents have had pure-bred German shepherds and were even thinking of breeding. But keep in mind these were purchased from other breeders, not a pet shop, and our first german shepherd was being trained to be a police dog before my dad got sick. They also have a pure bred English bulldog who was purchased private party from a guy that didn't want her anymore (because she was "too big"). So I don't see a problem with people wanting a pure-bred dog. I just wish more dogs out there would be adopted.

I also wish that law enforcement and search and rescue depts would adopt and train dogs from shelters. I know my aunts  hound dog was adopted by search and rescue...but I think that's because SHE called around and tried to find a home for him.

UGH!!!!!! That just makes me sick! I hate people sometimes! Those poor animals. I don't think I could ever do the kind of work you do. It would kill me. I think the  government should regulate breeding better. It's so sad to think of all the animals in the shelters that get killed because no one wants them...and they're allowed to sell pure breds at pet shops! I will NEVER buy a dog or cat from the pet shop!
