Fat cat Weighs 19LBS

My cat used to be thin before he was neutered. My cat is a big cat anyway. Before neutering he weighed 10lbs. .   He was neutered 6 months ago.  My cat now weighs 19lbs.  Because of this xtra eight his sides are expanded.
I love him very much. He is a orange domestic short haired cat.   Should I be concerned about his weight?
I worry about his weight.  I have two other cats that were neutered some time back.  They never balooned up like my cat Tiger.  My cat Tiger is 2 years old.

Hi, yes....I would be very concerned if my cat had almost doubled his weight in 6 months.  I DO agree w/ the others that cats do tend to gain some weight when they are fixed, but 9 lbs is way too much!

Hopefully, he has gained weight because of a diet change-eating more and less active.  But, I wouldn't assume this as the cause.  If this were my cat, I would take him to the vet and get a thorough exam-blood work and x-rays.

Good luck and please come back and let us know how BOTH of you are doing!

Tiger May need to be put on a feline diet. There are brands of food that are specifically designed for over weight cats. You should also take him to a vet just to get it checked that there is no medical problem causing his weight gain as some medical problems can cause this.
Good luck

Hmm I would think that 9 extra lbs is a bit a worry about. especially in a 2 year old cat. My cat is overweight too and it caused (maybe just a correlation) her to get arthritis pretty early, and the extra weight is bad for the joints, I think.  Plus diabetes is another concern.  Cats do tend to gain weight after being fixed though.  It could be correlated with the food he is eating, have you tried any grain free foods?  The grain and fillers in a lot of food are just that, fillers, and tend to make kitties fat, plus they don't need all that grain I don't think.  A raw diet is nice too, but pretty expensive.  Maybe try switching him to a grain free food?  and just putting enough out for him to eat for one meal?  (as oppsed to being "free range" with the food)  I also heard that hanging things, like toys and scratching post, instead of laying it on the floor, cause the cats to stretch and "work out" more when they play, I'm not sure though.  Plus, if he isn't doesn't use the board when it is hanging, that is no good (sharp claws ah!)  I'm not a vet or anything though, so there could be other underlying disorders though that present weight gain, I would make a vet appointment if he has not had one yet if I were you. sorry so long.

OMG yes you should be concerned for sure, for any cat to gain 9 lbs in 6 months is really abnormal.....have you talked to you're Vet?
What and how much is kitty eating?...this is not healthy....I really think he needs a good examination.
