My 1st stray was Tuna Cat in July, 1978 (wandered in from the dark, about 2 - 3 months old per the vet), then April Dancer in June, 1986 (an abandoned kitten found in a parking lot at about 8 - 9 weeks of age), Cerridwen Blythe in January, 1988 (vet estimated she was about 4), Miss Teia Honey in June, 2009 (she had been a feral kitten adopted almost 10 years before by the folks we got her from)...
All ate whatever was in her bowl, though Teia would eat only dry at first, which was as her previous people told us. We just kept presenting her with wet food and after a few weeks tried it, and liked it.
Every other cat I've had, was gotten from owners of the parent-cats...see my photo album for more detail.
Good question!
Hi ,everybody
Thank you for the answers
Its was exactly I was expecting to hear - cats are not born "spoiled",we spoil them...With pleasure, sometimes I have to admit !
For sure such inteligent ones enjoy the good things when they get, (even is not healthy for then )but they can live fine and happy not knowing those.
From experience (personal, of course) stray cats will eat just about anything....even raw foods. Your cat should be ok with whatever you feed her. I would just make sure she is getting proper nutrition. Strays are usually not very well fed, so whatever good nutrition you can provide will be great, no matter how old she is.
The kittens I have found, would eat anything! And, they would growl at the other cats when they would come near the food bowl if they were eating. I think it's because they got used to being hungry and did not want to share. Now, they are fine and can eat with the other cats with no problem. I feed my cats Purina One (healthy weight mixed with hairball formula) and they love it and are doing great on it! I also supplement their diet with cat vitamins and soft food twice a week. I keep the dry food out all the time since they tend to be nibblers. That works with my crew. (The kitten gets soft kitten food every evening to help him grow though.)
Hi,
I have an 11 year old cat that I adopted when she was about 8 months old or so! She was living in a ravine with some other ferals but warmed up to me when neighbors began feeding her. She will eat anything, but I give her Eukanuba dry food and some Fancy Feast as a treat. She is the most loving, grateful cat. I think when you adopt a stray, they will forever be grateful and never stop thanking you for giving them a home.
