Introducing new kitten to older cat

Hello. I have a ten year old cat. My daughter had been begging for a kitten for awhile. When her friend's cat had kittens, I allowed her to choose one. My older cat has never liked any animals being brought into the house. I used to foster/babysit dogs and a couple of mama cats with kittens. She always would hiss and run away, so I usually kept them seperated.
My question is "How do I introduce this new kitten to my older cat?" We just got the kitten yesterday. She's almost 3 months old. So far we've kept her seperated from my older cat. She is staying in my daughter's room for now. I really don't want to have to do that forever though. Will my older cat ever accept her? I want to go about this slowly so as not to traumatize either cat. Ideally, I'd love for them to become friends but I know sometimes that doesn't happen. Any suggestions on how to slowly get each cat used to each other and not be afraid or stressed out too much? Thanks!

ok I just did this a few months ago. Our older cat is 6 years old and we had a 8 week old kitten. I held the kitten in my lap and let Kazee come up and smell her...I did this over and over until a week later I let her down and he just watched her. Now after 8 months it's hard to believe we were ever worried...they love each other so much and play like crazy...Make sure you pet your older cat as it checks out the new kitten

Sadly we adopted a 10 week old kitten a few weeks before my 18yr old cat passed away this summer. For a while I thought it was the stress then I realized he probably had underlying health issues. Now we are adopted another 6 mth old which will be a perfect partner for the kitten.
