thankyou for the update, so happy to hear Sofi is doing so well...it does take a few days for a kitty to feel normal aft any surgery.
sounds like she is well on the road to recovery and being her playful self once again.
We're happy to have you both as new members to our cat forum, we try to help one another with all kitty issues....its so nice to help out any NEW kitty momma!!!
please feel welcome to post anytime you have a question or just want to reply to someone else who is struggling with something, we welcome all input. I look forward to checking out more of your photos!!!
Hey Everyone! Thanks so much for your comments :)
We took Sofi to the vet today for her 48 hour check-up and it looks like she is healing well. She got a shot of antibiotics, and they left the bandage on so that she doesn't take the stitches out. Yesterday she slept almost the whole day, and was receptive to lots of cuddling. Today she is MUCH better, and doesn't seem to be in any pain. She's more playful and has been eating a good amount.
All in all, we're much relieved :) And I felt a lot better knowing everyone else's experience. Since she's my first kitty and I'm new to this kind of stuff, I was just a little worried and upset that she seemed to be in pain and had no meds... But now things are looking up.
I'll upload more photos, I've been checking out everyone else's pictures and there are lots of adorable kitties on here. Oh and Pip, I hope that Kessie is doing better!
Good to read that Sophie seems to be healing nicely.
Took a look at the photos, that shot of Sophie among the plants is so very nicely framed, it is a definite Kodak moment.
Mines get no cones as well. The first received no medicines as well, vet said it was no need and really wasnt.
She arrived quite well and no sign of pain. But she needed antibiotics 3 days later
In fact I bought the cone ( and exchanged 3 times - wrong size) cos she was licking the "like bandage clothe "she came with but she hated and we finished using just a homemade clothe ( T- shirt sleeve)
Her daughters get the same when was their time -another vet and this one prescribed them some pills.Bandage was poor made so I preferred the clothes.
I'm stopping here by now,I'm crazy to see the pics of your baby :-)
hi and welcome Cat to our Cat forum....yes very appropriate for sure!!
as Pip said this all sounds quite normal after a surgery, its a big operation for a youngster and Sophia just needs a day or two to sleep it off and bounce back, good sign that she is eating.... her personality shouldn't noticeably change...don't be afraid of hurting her, pick her up and love her as long as she is into it -)
for what its worth those cones are torture and I hate them!!! but don't understand why she is bandaged up either? thats not usual, I would remove them that way you can examine the site and be sure its healing normally and not all red and infected....its okay if she licks it as long as she doesn't over do it and start picking at the stitches....-)
I looked at your photos and she is a gorgeous kitty, welcome to you both♥
Hi Pip! Thanks so much. I'm glad that other kitties don't get cones, makes me feel better :)
Her name is Sofia (Sofi) and she's my first cat. I've had quite a few pups in the past, and gotten them fixed but they have always bounced back so quickly.
Last night she slept just fine, and she hasn't been crying today. She was hungry this morning and ate a good amount... But she's being really reclusive. I work from home, and usually she hangs out with me but she's kind of doing her own thing. I'm afraid to pick her up because yesterday anytime I touched her she started crying... I'm trying to spoil her with love (even though she always gets a lot, ha) but she doesn't really seem into it. Should I just let her be for a couple of days? Just let her come to me?
Oh, I uploaded some photos on my profile :) I have more recent ones that aren't on my computer yet, but she's a little thing. So adorable!! I guess I'm just worried that spaying her will change her personality or something, as she's keeping to herself and I read on a different forum that other kitties are more affectionate after being spayed....
Thanks!
Cat (ha, yes my name is Cat, appropriate for a cat forum lol)
All of my girls (11 in all) have been spayed; never had a cone (sometimes no bandages either).
Kitties seem to heal faster than do we big people.
Comfort your little girl, even spoil her a bit to distract her as you can. Licking at the wound (even covered by bandages) is a natural reaction. She's just trying to clean herself.
If this goes on much more than a week or so, consult with your vet.
BTW, what is kitty's name? ...have you a picture to post?
Be well and take care - Pip
