Lady BaBa is Preggo! Need Answers!!

Background story: This little girl was rescued on the 4th of July (I had posted about this) from being under my sister's bf's car. She made it all the way to their house when she was discovered. She was about 3 months so to speak. She was named "Lucky" which later was switched to Lady BaBa (think Lady GaGa lol) she's a tuxedo tiger looking cat.

Here's my main concern: I delayed on getting her fixed, and when I was going to take her she went into her heat. Out of 3 males that I have only 1 isnt fixed because he's so ill that putting him under to get him neutered would have him killed. Thats how sick he is. So at the moment he's being cared and treated til he's good for his snip. Unfortunately he was the one that got her preggo. So a few days ago I noticed her belly was pudgy. Didnt think of anything since I had just switched foods to Eukanuba. So I figured thats why she was gaining weight. (Shes a petite little thing) her nipples started getting pink and enlarged. So I made an appt to get her spayed on Jan 6 paying anywhere between $72.50-$117.50 with pain meds and antibiotics because she's preggo.

We are all worried of what might happen. I was told she doesnt need pain meds nor antibiotics. Which I think she does because who wouldnt be in pain if they are being opened up?!? I'm just worried about this little girl. All my cats are boys and I am not used to this. What am I to expect out of this? In a way I want her to have them better but I did read that cats under 1yr old should have abortions done because they are too young to have kittens. Then I think poor kitties--I'm a huge sucker for kittens. Especially if they look like the ones I have or tuxedos ; ) But then the world is so over populated with so many cats that need good loving homes. Need some support fellow cat lovers!!

HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE!!! ; )

Opus is right.  If the cat isn't too far a long most vets will go ahead and spay.  If the cat is far enough along that the kittens could be live they will do what they have to in order to save the kits and then spay momma.

Spaying is very important for a few reasons, it helps prevent breast cancer and it helps keep down the population.

You apparently live in area like me where cats are constantly left to fend for themselves when ppl decide it is too much trouble.

My main concern for her right now is that the Vet said she would not need any antibiotics or pain meds.  Spaying and neutering is painful.  It doesn't matter if it ia dog, cat, or human....  this procedure is painful.  With malesn antibiotics and not usually prescribed, but with females we can't really see if an infection is starting, so antibiotics are usually prescribed.

Spaying is like having an Hysterectomy for a human...

hi...don't be afraid its done all the time, I never had to do a cat that was pregnant but I did a dog....as long as they aren't really advanced in pregnancy its not a big deal for mommy, the just remove the uterus like they would for us humans.
Please don't change your mind...unless the vet tells you it isn't safe at this stage, than its best to go ahead.
google....FELINE SPAYING...there should be a link to show kyou the procedure. good luck, let us know

Thanks ladies for your input. I want to read about how they do this procedure for a preggo cat online (I know about the males but not the females) but I am scared that I will actually freak out and not go through it. So I rather wait to ask the vet personally about this info. It hurts me to know shes carrying kittens inside of her and that she wont have them. But I know how bad it is out there in this world. Its so hard to find a nice loving home for cats. The shelters are so overfilled that now they only give these little furry animals 4 days instead of 7 to be adopted. A while back I had taken in 3 tiny kittens I had rescued. I thought I had done right by taking them in. Instead the lady tells me they are being put to sleep within 4 days if no one adopts them thanks to the governor here in CA (he should stick to acting btr!!)

A mama feral had 4 babies. 1 died and now she has 3 left. They are about 3 months old I think. Before she was preggo and had them, she would come around and get food at our house (we feed many ferals and strays) We have known her to go through 2 pregnancies. Poor kittens, they wait under a car for us to take them food. We go early in the morning to feed mama and the babies, mid day and around 11pm-2am. We see the little guys playing in the front yard of some apartments across our house. I see them there and think, I am doing the right thing by fixing this little girl. She's btr off this way

My little one I rescued is about 4 months now & she  is being spayed on monday. We are not sure if she is pregnant but they want me to drop her off tomorrow to be examined and get her on antibiotic for the weekend before the procedure on monday.  I too am scared. She is an outdoor cat and there have been 3 stray neighborhood males chasing & tormenting her all  the past month. She hardly leaves her house bc she cant stand being bothered now. (i would have her inside but my lanlords wont let me. She has a cat house thats insulated etc)  I know it needs to be done, for all I know she could be pregnant now too. I am very worried too but in the end it is the humane and best thing to do for our little loved ones.
Best wishes to you and your kitty. I will let you know how mine makes out since she will be done just before yours!
Remember, what we are doing is out of love!

Best wishes

thats so good of you to take in another kitty especially one that needed a home,,,, that old b***r on his sick bed and can still do his duty eh..oh those males!
I understand your predicament and I would hope the Vet should know if this is safe for her at this stage of her pregnancy and abt the meds...
I really can't say much as I've never had a female in that situation...perhaps there are others on here that will respond with more knowledge for you.
I do agree with you that we are over populated especially if you don't know of good homes for these poor little kitties than perhaps you are making the sensible choice, not an easy one I know...I am a huge sucker too.
Sorry not much help, just wanted to give you some support.
HAPPY NEW YEAR TO YOU TOO!!!
let us know how she makes out please..
