Large Tumor - not FIP

by YuK, Nov 01, 2009 09:12PM
I posted a few days ago that the vet and he thinks my cat has FIP.  Our cat is 16 years old, started losing weight and her stomach is huge..When I took her to the Vet, she was a little anemic, and was hoping for a possible parisite.  Put her on anitibiotics & vitamins.

The FIP results came back negative and the Vet did further tests on fluid to confirm.  Vet did Thyroid tests - normal.  Yesterday, he found a large tumor.  He put her on lasik to try to eliminate the fluid.  I don't know what I should be doing.  The vet feels the only thing at this point to do is try to make her comfortable.  She is weak and wobbles, and has stopped grooming herself but she is still eating & drinking

OH honey I am so sorry, tumors or FIP neither are good news.
You didn't mention where the tumor is?
The lasix may make her more comfortable for a while depending on where all this fluid has accumulated?
I agree with your vet....just keep kitty comfortable she is 16 yrs and already weak it would be very traumatizing to her to try and treat this tumor.
Keep her home and give her lots of hugs, but when she starts getting in pain(you will know this because for one thing she will stop eating and drinking)... please be in touch with your vet. ...kitty will tell you when she's had enough and is ready to go.
Please be strong for her.
God bless

Thanks for the encouragement.  Bitty lost a tooth today.  I think it's her last one.  Years ago I had to get most of them pulled because of decay.  I can remember asking the Vet "how is she going to eat?"  He answered me, "the same way she is eating now, because she is not eating on these teeth."  He was right and she had been fine up to now.

She is very constipated.  I think I will call the vet and see if I can give her something about that.
