Male Senior Cat Vomiting and Losing Weight

My senior cat has always had a tendency to vomit after eating, but now he is vomiting quite a lot. He was given a steroid (pred.) which has helped some. He is a very sensitive, nervous cat.  His labs indicate that he does not have pancreatitis, and overall his lab work looks good. He had a full senior work up, as well as urinanalysis and the test for the pancreatitis (negative).  He has been dehydrated, not eating well, nauseated and vomiting.  Is the next step to do an ultrasound?

Thanks so much for your reply!  I am trying to get him to eat canned food only, but continue to offer dry Science Diet (mixed with canned) on the side (just a little bit).  His appetite is very low. The canned food is usually Newman's Own or Wellness, but I am experimenting with others to try to find one he will eat.
I am afraid that the next step will have to be an ultrasound, and he has a vet appointment today so I will discuss that.   They suspect either lymphoma or Inflammatory Bowel Disease.  I'll keep you all posted. Thank you again for your ideas and I will add those to my list to discuss with the vet today.

hi and welcome. I'm glad all the tests results are looking good, with senior pets diet is a huge concern, their stomachs just aren't able to tolerate the same as when they were younger(just as with people). I am wondering what your boy eats? Its very important at this stage to feed a wet canned diet especially when there are signs of dehydration. dry food only has 12% water while cans have 78%...and cats never drink enough to compensate for this loss and can lead to FLUTD(feline lower urinary tract disease) or renal failure(CHF)
Was he tested for these as well?
We are not Vets on this site, I would follow the recommendations of your Vet in regards to an ultra sound.
Keep us updated please, and all the best of luck for this darling old fella..
