Millionth time this has been asked...

I'm sure everyone has asked this at some point or another and so sorry for bringing it up again. But........ what can I do to STOP THE STINK?! The bathroom (where the litterbox is) constantly stinks. I clean the litterbox, it stinks. I even use disinfecting solution to clean the box and it sticks.

My sister suggested changing his cat food. I'm a very thrifty person so naturally I bought really cheap cat food (especially as we were still unsure if we were keeping him at that point, as he was a stray). Sooooooooooo... what kind of cat food is the BEST and BEST for your $$$? I'd love to get rid of this smell because I'm very sensitive to smells. *GAG*

I feed my cat's Wellness (more on the $$ side) and their pee/poo doesn't have very much of a smell (and it's within 20 feet of me).  I'll only smell poo if they're in the process of doing it.  Also, I use Fresh Pine scoopable litter--it's messier than clay (because the particles are very fine), but it's completely flushable and, even when i forget to clean the box for 2 weeks and go to scoop, i dn't smell anything in the room and it only smells like a hardware store (like freshly cut wood), when my face is about 10 inches away from the box while scooping (i'm very sensitive to smell--when i used clay, it smelled like ammonia if it wasn't scooped often, as I have two cats which equals twice the mess!)

Oh, I forgot to mention; a bathroom is actually a REALLY bad place for a litter box, which is too bad, since it's usually the ideal place.

When you shower, humidity builds up in the air and practically destroys the effectiveness of most scooping litters. It also promotes bacterial growth that adds to the smell.

I've never had any luck with the covered boxes. Some cats just don't like it. I settled for a really high rimmed box.  (Too bad, I like the idea of a covered box).

We use tidy cats multiple formula. We also replace the litter box every month or so (plastic absorbs those wonderful odors too well!). If the box is very scratched up, those scratches get dirty litter embedded in them.

You should also replace the litter entirely about once a week. You probably use scooping like most people do; it work great, but particles WILL stay in the box when you scoop, and they will settle to the bottom of the box over time and STAY there, adding to that wonderful piquant aroma that makes dinner parties oh so special!!!

Yes, he's been neutred.

Well we don't have that store around here! LOL! But we do have Sam's Club. Okay so on the shopping list we have:

Cat food with indoor formula
Covered box/filter
Scoop Away or Fresh Step (we have the one that's in a huge yellow tub right now)

This is going to be one pampered cat. I tried to get him a cat bed but he likes to sleep on my neck instead. That was taken back!!!

I use Fresh Step. It smells nice. Go to **'s Club and get 40 lbs for just $10.00. It covers odor. Also, does your litter box has filter? It'd be beter if you had a litter box with a filter.
And as far as food, anything that says indoor, that's what you need to buy.
