Miss Teia Honey - further progress

To all of Miss Teia's friends, good morning;
Next Tuesday makes 5 months since we brought kitty home. Looks like the tensions surrounding her previous people has resulted in a breakup as a follow-on to the foreclosure. They have my sympathy and hopes for a better life ahead.
Miss Teia is now regularly patrolling the sleeping end of the house and seems to be much more comfortable with the other kitties. She still hisses if they get too close (about 3 - 4 feet now) and her growl now sounds like a semi-choked hybrid of a grrr and meow.
She's taken to coming in my bedroom right around wake-up time.
This morning she was laying at the foot of the bed, Kestrel was on the floor to my right, Hildie was between Teia and the door and Chesapeake was just outside the door. Teia was calmly laying on her side watching the others; let loose a couple of gr-mows...
Then I announced "Breakfast!" and the tableau broke up...Kissie, Hildie and Chessie sprinting for the kitchen and Teia repairing to her "apartment," though her food bowl is now just outside the door to the spare room...her comfort zone is definitely larger now.

This afternoon, she didn't hiss when Hildie came into the spare room to visit, though Hildie did keep a nice social distance.
Sounds like Teia Wants to join in, but just isn't sure yet...
Miss Teia has flashes of sociability, but turns on a dime sometimes to "leave me alone"-ness.
We think she does like becoming part of a family, people and cats, but still is a bit unsure.
I trust that as we keep being consistent in our treatment of her, and in our moderation of the contacts between her and the other three, that Teia will come to understand that ours is a sometimes rambunctious household, but a safe one.
She has come such a long way from what we were led to believe.
I think her previous Momma truly loved kitties, but (as I have written before) just did not have the patience or perseverance needed to rebuild a cat with an equivalent of PTSD.

Yes she and the others will come around, like my two males...they just avoid each other, but do allow each other to share different sides of my bed..(I am trapped in between)

She was out in the hallway twice this morning before I went to work, Anita saw her come out and walk part of the way towards the kitchen, which was the 1st time.
#2 was as I went to change into my work clothes, she was sitting in the hall between the bedrooms.
This afternoon, we had a repeat performance, plus Anita got a couple of minutes of lap time.
We figure, another month of so and Teia may be comfortable enough for us to pick her up.
Woo hoo!
I think they will all eventually be great friends!!
Hildiekatt has taken to wanting her food bowl, at breakfast and supper time, placed just outside Miss Teia's room...so they can watch each other while they eat.
Hildie seems to have taken an active interest in letting Teia know that other kitties are no threat, but are good neighbors.
I am so amused and mystified.

But, Hildie was back in her new dining area for the evening meal.
Kestrel (Hildie's older sister) came by for a bit tonight, also.
Chesapeake (aka Bear) has all the subtlety of a tire iron upside the head, she tried to engage Miss Teia up close; got yowled at and swatted. No fur flew or blood drawn, however.
Then again, Bear is used to being the "baby," and testing the other kitties' limits.

Miss Teia was asleep on the bed.
Miss Hildie strolls in to give the room a sniffigation and Teia wakes up, just watches Hildie walking around, checking out Teia's carrier, jumping upon the box by the window...a very thorough going over of the room, except atop the bed.
Even when Hildie came up and rubbed against my shins, just the bed height away, not a peep from Teia.
I think Teia is getting used to Hildie as a, not quite friend,but an unenemy ,-)
It must be awesome to watch the progress in person, Pip. So Miss Teia has only made it a little ways down the hall, but otherwise, stays in the spare room?
Actually, Friday I was considering calling in late to work because Miss Teia came all the way down the hall; explored the edge of the living room, the foyer, kitchen and almost went into the dining room.
But she spotted her nemesis, Chesapeake, aka Bear. She likes to sleep between the drapes and the patio door, Teia saw Bear's hind end sticking out and scooted back to the spare room. Bear's the only one of the other three who has just rushed up and gotten in Teia's face_n_space.
She's also started coming into the master bedroom when she hears my alarm go off...about 3 or 4 times the past 2 weeks. Usually Kestrel is the "Wake-up, it's food o'clock" warden ,-)
So, it looks like Teia is becoming much more comfortable with the idea that the house is bigger than the spare room, plus putting herself where she might encounter the other kitties.
I just wish I had this patience with some of my co-workers, but then again, I've never had time for people who are willfully ignorant.
