Miss Teia is doing fine...

Blood test results came back, all okay, though thyroid is at the high end of normal and she's lost a few ounces, taking her just under 8 1/2#.  She is not bony or emaciated looking.

Doc Bennett is going to do another test (can use same sample) to double check free T4...may prescribe a mild thyroid med.  We will do a transdermal ointment as I DO NOT believe Teia will ever take to being pilled.

Other than that, she eats, drinks, sleeps, moves around, pees and poops just fine, even has a case of "Kitten Skitters" a few times a week.

She was "helping" Anita read the other night.

Go with the vet's recommendation, Lucy's dental work shouldn't wait.  I'm saying that as a person who had an abscessed tooth and KNOW the pain that bad teeth can bring.

ARGH!!! Sorry for the rambling.

Lucy's blood test should have been back Tuesday.  I called the vet Weds and they said it wasn't in yet (and that it was odd for the delay) and would call me as soon as it got in.  I called yesterday to make sure the test was even ordered (we talked on the phone and I was making sure we were on the right page)- it was and not back yet so they would call the lab.  I got a call this morning- the lab said they didn't have enough blood left to run the additional test- but the vet never got notice of that after the new test was ordered.  The vet is really upset with the lab now as am I.

Anyway- I can take her in tomorrow for an additional blood draw or we can wait until she gets her teeth cleaned Tuesday and send it in then.

I'm torn on the cleaning part- she has a bad tooth that has to come out, so she is in pain all the time and may not really be able to eat- I'm not totally convinced her teeth aren't part of the problem.

Do I wait until after the test and know everything or go ahead and do it now?  The vet says she is comfortable with doing it anyway knowing how the rest of her tests are.

Good luck on the second round being in the normal range, too.

Our second round is back.  Missy T's Free T4 is 43 on a 10 - 50 scale, high normal.

Doc Bennett said keep an eye on her weight, try and get her to eat a bit more calorie dense food.  We'll have a blood draw again in September.

Still amazed at how few health problems she has had, when we consider her origins.

The results are back.  3.7 on a 4.0 scale.  High but not conclusive.  Is doing the second test (like Pip) and should get back today.  At least there is no additional blood draw- they should have enough.

It sounds like we are in the same boat.  The vet thinks Lucy is hyperthyroid. She didn't gain weight this winter like usual but I thought that might be stress from the new dog.  I got a good look at her last week and realized she wasn't looking good- almost anorexic looking and unkempt. I wondered if it was a tooth since she needs a cleaning.

Since she is 13 I wanted her senior blood work done before we even thought of cleaning- they would have done it the day of but why wait and stress her taking her there for nothing.  Anyway, we did the blood work last week and it came back ok- a little off here and there but nothing alarming except.....  the lab came back with "not enough blood" for the T4 and a couple of other things- grrrr.  They must have dropped it- not too big of a deal but don't say the vet  didn't.  With having to poke her 3 times (poor baby)- they made sure to get enough to run everything.

Anyway, I took her back Saturday and got more blood- they got the first try and the vet herself did it this time.  :)   They should get back with me sometime today with what that says.

Thank you Melinda.

For a fictionalized account of Teia's life before we got her go to the following link and scroll down to my entry of 7 August 2011.

She was 10 1/2 when we took her into our family and was still semi-feral and fearful.  Patient, persistent kindness later you see the result in the above picture.

Hi there.
Melinda here.

I don't know much of little Teia's background but I just love hearing about how she's doing & her latest kitty exploits.

She is so pretty - I really like how the markings on her head look like she has a white part down the middle.

  Such a treasure!

Blessings,
  M

Routine followup to her annual last September and the bowel obstruction last November.

Kidneys seem good, her water intake is normal and her water output is normal.  Doc didn't mention that as a worry.  We definitely try to keep on top of things.

Am definitely going to look up kitty thyroid meds, thanks.

I'm sorry Pip, I must of missed something, I didn't know Teia wasn't feeling well.  Or was this found with a routine check?

That was how Jade was...the high end of normal with her thyroid.  We had the special test done too showing her 'over' just slightly.  If thyroid meds are needed, then the ointment is certainly the best way to go.  We would have done that for Jade, just couldn't afford to have the meds compounded.

Please do some reading on thyroid/meds.  From what I came to understand, thyroid issues can mask kidney issues.  Once the thyroid gets under control, is when the kidney problems will reveal themselves.  Just fyi in case you didn't know.

Teia looks so good in this photo.  And it's great to hear her behaviors in all other areas haven't changed.  Water intake is normal I take it, otherwise you would of mentioned.

Prayers for our Miss Teia.  Hugs to you and Anita...♥

What is about reading a book!!! Never fails that is the time they want to sit on you. I mean you could sit for hours with nothing in your lap.....but NOOOOO they don't want the lap then.

Ms T surely is a beauty though.
