yes great post annie....makes sense, hadn't even thought of that.
anita...we'll know somethings up if your baby is born with long whiskers...lol
Thankyou for all of your posts, really interesting comments, we neutered him before 6 months old but it still not made a difference lol, He used to be really aggressive when i fed him, i became a bit fearful of him wen he drew blood afew times but have since taken control, He is constantly trying it on with me regardess of me being due on my period, maybe he knows i want a baby and he wants to be the dad lol .
hi and welcome anita.....you sexy thing you..lol
believe it or not my Nemo has similar characteristics...I've owned many male cats and had never run across this before him.
It appears to be caused mainly by being neutered later in life..after the onset of sexual maturity.
When I got Nemo he was already 7 months old and we had a female cat too at the time, even though I had him neutered right away he still continually tried to breed the female....for the 4 yrs until she passed away, than he decided he 'liked me'...he likes to rub on my arm when he comes and joins me in bed at night and howls like he's in pain.....this is the only time he will try. and I must say the incidents have become alot less the past 2 years(he's now 8) almost non existent now.
I am thinking these males not only can smell the scent of feline hormones but also those of us of the human female persuasion....perhaps we are not all the much unlike a cat after all???
I wouldn't scold him, hes only acting out at what comes naturally and by scolding he may get to be a nervous nellie. just gently tell him NO and put him away from you...
you can also try a FELIWAY DIFUSER..something I didn't know about at the time. its a pheronome and used to 'calm' a kitty for many behavioral issues. its avail thru most Vet clinic's or thru Amazon.com.

good luck((>^♥^<))
Does he act like this daily or do you notice it more during your menstrual cycle?
Your kitty could well be trying to dominate you. He obviously thinks of your husband as the alpha, but wants to be next, which means to him that you need to be kicked down to beta, after himself. I'd put some Feliway under my ears, frankly. :)
Ah, just kidding, don't wear Feliway. But you can improve your dominance position over a pet by a lot of small moves, all of which feel a bit domineering to a human. One suggestion is always eating before feeding the pet (even if you are taking a pretend bite or two when feeding the cat), as the alpha always eats before the beta. Another is by never gracing the cat with your attention except when YOU feel like it. With dogs, one is never let the dog walk through the door before you -- you go first. Things like that. A good writer named Patricia McConnell has written a bit about this in dogs, it's all worth knowing about when you have a domineering male cat also. Apparently primates, like us, have a very different set of signals than canines and felines regarding alpha and beta, and cats and dogs can read what we think of as decent and friendly gestures as indicators that we're not in control.
Worth a shot. :)
