My poor little kitten isn't getting any better!

I adopted three kittens from a guy who kept them in his garage. My mom was supposed to take two and I keep the third but after a week with them I do not want to give them up. Anyways me and my mom took them to the vet right after we got them and he put them on antibiotics for an infection. Starts with a C but can't remember what it is called. He said it was very common in cats. They have been taking the medication for two weeks now and one of the kittens still has discharge coming out of her eyes. She sleeps all day and isn't as active as the others. My son has really bonded with this kitten so I don't want to see her get worse.

I am taking her to the vet this weekend but would like to know before hand what could cause her not to get well like the others have done.

Also, I give them purina kitten chow and a 4 oz. can of cat food a day. Each of them get their own food bowl so each get a can of kitten food as well as the dry food.

It's all about the immune system!  Maybe the other kittens just have a stronger immune system-that's all it is.  Maybe, she just needs a second course of antibiotics and some extra TLC.  Is she getting worse or is she staying the same?  The antibiotic you're talking about is probably clavamox.  Sometimes that can make a cat nauseous, throw up, and have diarrhea.  So, please keep an eye out.  Another word of warning, please check for dehydration, which is extremely dangerous especially for a young kitten.  You can check this by lifting the skin on the scruff of the neck.  The skin should snap back quickly, if it does not then the cat's dehydrated.  The dehydration will require a vet visit ASAP.  In the meantime, you can force-feed syringes of water (make sure that you do it very slowly, so the kitten doesn't choke).

Good luck!  Please keep us updated!

Yes, is the discharge getting worse or is it about the same?

I wonder if this article could be of any help?

In case my link gets blocked later, it could be Chlamydiosis?  That starts with a "C"

That's what came up when I searched Kitten, disease, eye discharge in google. From the sounds of it, your kitten may continue to have a degree of eye discharge ever so often.

thank you! I checked that sight out and it does appear this is going to an ongoing problem.

As long as she is healthy and all I have to do is clean her eyes I am okay with it.

I will know something for sure tomorrow as I have made her a dr. appt. for tomorrow.

I think Waldo has it too. He's always had weeping eyes since we got him. But he's okay.  He does put up a bit of a fight when it comes to wiping his face, but otherwise he's alright.

In time that will probably be the case with your cat. One way to wipe  her face is to kind of corner her and then try to act like you're going to pet her. Slip one hand under the jaw/chin area and use the other hand to wipe up the eyes.

Thank you for your help!

I took her back to her vet this weekend and she still has a slight upper respitory infection. She is on a stronger antibiotic. Hopefully this will kick this nasty bug.
