Thumbs up to you and good luck to finding out what ails kitty.
Thanks everyone.
I've set up another appointment with a new vet to get a second opinion. I am worried that it may be a nasal polyp, especially since its on one side and its bright red blood. However, I did wonder if the steroid is making it worse as well and considered stopping the dosage to see how he would react. I had already put him to half a pill a day as you are supposed to wean them off.
I worried about herpes simplex as well, but I believe he was all vaccinated for everything when we adopted him 4 years ago from the SPCA - and it doesn't seem to be contagious as I have 2 other cats who have not contracted anything.
Clavimox is the antibiotic that helped clear it up both times when it was actually runny and goopy.
I'll follow up after his appointment on Saturday.
Hi Chrono,
Know what you are going through! My cat Meezy has the herpes simplex virus witch causes numerous URI when your cat is stressed or his immune system is run down.
STEROIDS on a cat with this is a def NO. The steroids will be a quick fix, but will also depress the immune system to where the cat is now getting more frequent recurrences.
My cat also has asthma, so she gets these little colds a lot, but only when there is discharge in the nose, like your kitty, do I bring on the antibiotics.
.....and only Clavimox for Meez, never steroids.
Your kit may have a nasal Polyp. They are common in cats with this issue.
Check it out like Pip said

Ask your vet if there is a referral veterinary in the area that has a complete suite of diagnostic equipment. Our vet recommended the one that found the lymphoma, which was afflicting Hildikatt.
It may be expensive, but something is going on beyond infection and inflammation.
