Odd Litterbox Behaviour

Hi all! Callie is slowly warming up to Gus and her herpes flare up is almost over (fingers crossed).

I have noticed that Gus is squatting very low to pee in the litterbox. He literally seems to be sitting on the litter. He isn't straining that I can tell and does not seem to be in any pain. He eats and drinks well and urinates a few times a day (he is almost a year old). I am attaching a photo of my boy too. :)

I am concerned that it may not be the cleanest way for him to urinate and that it may cause problems down the road.

Has anyone experienced this with their cat or should I just stop worrying?

We've always had at least 1 box more than we have cats.

Buff and Cooper have 2 in the nursery, 3 if we are gone for a few days (neighbor looks in on them)

There are 5 others through out the house.  Missy T has 2 or 3 she uses regularly.  The boys use all 7 or 8.

Thanks Annie! I have 2 litter boxes and 2 cats but for whatever reason, they both like to use both boxes.

I usually scoop out 2-3x a day so hopefully that will take care of any potential issues.

The only thing I would worry about is if the two cats don't have their own litter boxes, and if the litter is not particularly clean.  But if you are scooping every day, you probably won't see Gus get any kind of infection.
