Pet Food Recall (Again)

Yes folks, there is yet another pet food recall happening again.

The following link provides a list of all products associated with Mars Petcare. The contagion is a strain of salmonella, a particularly nasty version.

Please confirm that your pet food is not on the list. If it is, contact your vet if you have any worries about your pet's state of health; save the food and report the incident to the health department. Keep in mind this strain of salmonella can potentially affect humans and other animals as well.

Thanks for posting this!!  I looked at the site and noticed the brand Special Kitty-I have seen this brand at Walmart.  This is the SECOND time this brand has been contaminated.  The first contamination was with acetominophen(tylenol), I can't remember the exact date, but I did a yahoo search and found that. Sure wish I could remember that date...UGGGHHH

Everyone, I'd stay as far away from this brand as possible.  Two contaminations is pretty damn scary!!

Good Lord! I can breathe now. This is really scary, especially now that I'm treating my cat for something that could be related to diet. He is now on prescription food but I wasn't buying any of the brands mentioned. Uff...

I just wish I'd caught on to the situation sooner. It's been in the making for a week or two apparently, which means the contamination period is likely any food purchased this month.

Ugh...its enough to make you start cooking for your pets. Nothing beats home cookin'. :)

I'm just so glad our great CL has finally said something close to "I agree with cooking foods for our pets because commercial brands are dangerous, not safe, and almost unhealthy"

By the way...I saw pictures of all the cats you have.
Question1: How many do you actually own?
Question 2: If you own that many, how have you managed to keep a certain level of sanity? lol

I've set up a totalitarian dictatorship and I rule through fear!!!

REgular police patrols, curfew, trips to the litter box require documentation (Let me see your papers, pleaze...)

We have 4 stay indoors, 4 indoor/ out door, and 3 ferals that come in the window to eat and then leave. Plus there are 4 that live in the back area (no...wait, we just saw kittens out there, about 3...so that's 7...okay, I think I'm losing count :)  )

Technically we consider 6 of them "ours". We'd like to find homes for the rest of them, but it's the end of summer going into fall and there's such an overflow of cats needing homes we don't expect to be able to do it any time soon.

As to sanity...eh...the ones that stay inside tend to sleep alot. Luckily, none of our cats are under 5-6 years of age, which makes a big difference.

heheheh...you have a whole zoo huh?
I feel ya...it's real hard to get cats adopted. There are so many out there it's hard to keep up with the numbers. There is a no kill cat only shelter around here that will close soon: too many cats coming in, none getting out. The money is just not enough. I wonder what they'll do with those cats. People seem to have hard time understanding that 1) if you don't fix your outside cats, the population will aggresively grow and 2) pets shouldn't be abandoned.

Oh great! This is probably why my cat's poo stinks so bad. I think I bought him Special Kitty this last time (I pour it into a container and throw the bag away but I'm pretty sure that's what I bought!).
