Pet insurance

Does anyone have pet insurance or have any experience with it?  I know my kitties are old enough it wouldn't be worth it but I have a troublemaking puppy (Skeeter) who should have it- the vet actually told me to get it for her. Especially if Taz gets ahold of her.  He HATES her.  Oliver wasn't so bad when she was smaller than him but really doesn't care for her now- she likes to bark at him.  Lucy couldn't care less- unless she lunges at her.  I have a feeling they will become friends as Skeeter gets older and calms down.

Hi Alli,

I suggest Pet Insurance for anyone obtaining a new pet. Medical care for pets is becoming more expensive than human care. Nothing worse than to have to make the decision between paying the vet bills or giving your pet up.

I have Pet Insurance . It is located in Philadelphia, where I am originally from. They have been great. I have the Platinum Plan which has a $75 deductible, will not cover regular check-ups or pre-existing conditions. I have been reimbursed thousands of dollars for my kit, mostly for asthma.

Look them up on-line, call them and have them send you some info. They are really great to work with and fast at reimbursement. I think I pay $400 quarterly.

With reference to Skeeter's open buffet--maybe he is not getting some nutrients in his present diet. Check with your vet about your dog food . You may have to upgrade , but it will save you money in the long run when shoes do not have to be surgically removed after the party!!

Keep us posted, K

lol...puppies can be a real challenge, they explore the world with their mouths..

pet insurance can be expensive and you need to research each one careful in the small print, some deductibles go up over time and with use!!

also another caution....they will NOT cover any pre-existing condition.
Skeeterbug doesn't appear to have any medical conditions other than that one undiagnosed dehydration episode..likely caused by worming and vaccinating at same time, that is alot for a little ones system to absorb all at once..try to space out vac's and any other meds always

most do cover injuries, however there is probably on the limited of claims, so read that carefully.

One I had temporarily for my Sami was Trupanion. it appeared at the time to be one of the better ones, however they wouldn't cover his dental issues b/c he had a prior cleaning..that WASN'T associated with the forls he later developed, so I got upset and cancelled his policy.

just do your reading....and good luck ♥

I do have 3 cats but they are 11+ years old and it's not cost effective otherwise I would have thought about it for them.  I wish I would have with the crazy lives they have ended up having.

Skeeterbug is 14 weeks old and came from a friend's cousin's farm. She got one girl and I got the other.  She is half Walker Coonhound, and half Bluetick Coonhound/black lab mix.

She's been to emergency-OMG!!!- 5 times since I got her at 6 weeks. 3 for vomiting and diarrhea.  She was so dehydrated she lost 1 lb that week and she only weighed 9 at the time. We never found a cause for that other than coming home, getting shots and wormed and then eating a mouse. The 4th was for her eye- She had blood on it and we thought one of the cats got her.  It was just her bumping it but I had to make sure.  And this last time for what we can only think was her getting a random pill.  Dad takes so many that he could have dropped one without realizing it.  It's really scary when the first student running to the desk grabs her and runs then calls others who run.  This is at a University so there are lots of people and a good distance between places.

The vet student she had the first time into emergency said they had never seen a dog harder to stop from eating anything she came into contact with.  We have 3 huge trees in the yard.  One is an oak so we have tons of acorns and squirrels who love to sit in the tree and throw the acorns down at us.  They don't have to actually touch the ground at all so she can't run after them. Woo Hoo!  We also have a Sycamore- I think- it's the one that sheds the bark so she eats that since it's all over.  The cats like to leave rodents- either it's a mouse or mole- it's hard to tell when they are that little.  By the time I notice it's there she is gobbling it up.  Try to grab it and she swallows it whole.  EWWW

I tried googling pet insurance but there were so many options I thought I'd try for peoples experiences first.

Hello aligator79,

I do not have pet insurance for our cat, Sammy. However, I have looked into some of the pet insurance policies. How old is Skeeter ?  Why did your vet suggest getting pet insurance for Skeeter.   It sounds like you have 3 cats and a puppy named Skeeter.  Is that right ?  What kind of dog is Skeeter ?
Is Skeeter from a dog breeder or is Skeeter a rescue , say from an animal shelter.  I guess I am just trying to understand what you are facing.
What I did was google pet insurance and see what websites come up.
Good luck with that.   Eve ( mother of Sammy the cat )
