Pneumonia from milk aspiration!!!

Pneumonia from milk aspiration!!!

We recently got a Caracal (African Cat) which was about 6 weeks old when we got it.  We've had it for 3 weeks.  But all of a sudden today she was real lethargic and seemed to be in pain so we rushed her to the vet and she had pneumonia in both lungs from milk aspiration.  The hole in the nipple was cut too large and I didn't notice it until about yesterday (3 1/2 days later) because I hadn't been the one feeding her.  Unfortunately she passed away earlier today due to the complications.  What I was wanting to know is how long does it take for it to get this bad.  She was running around and playing the day before although her apetite wasn't as good two days before this.

Generally a kitten's health can turn for the worse in just under 24 hours. The same could be said for an adult cat as well. Many illnesses that can be treated easily can lead to death in just three days.

So with cats, it's always a good idea to stay on top of these situations.

Don't feel to badly, you reacted swiftly given the circumstances and did your best. The important thing is you learn from the situation and not repeat the errors that happened this time.

Gods know I've had quite a few similar experiences myself, and it's never easy to deal with. I'm sorry for your loss.
