Pododermatitis

My friend has just taken in a cat that has been living rough near her for 3 years. She took her to the vet because  her feet were bleeding and the vet diagnosed  pododermatitis and gave her a steroid injection  which didn't work then prescribed  prednisone but the cat vomited blood so my friends stopped  the tablets, my friend is getting on in years and is disabled, the vet rather bluntly told my friend that the cat will probably have to be put to sleep, I was just wondering if there is any chance the cat could live with this condition or would it be cruel to keep her going

hi....this is a very resistant thing to treat, I'm really not very familiar with it, but I kind of remember there is one particular antibiotic that does get some response, shoot if I can remember which one tho. I will give you a link to many posting on this condition, some are very old and some are also very useless....but there are probably some good suggestions there as well also the name of the antiobiotic. If you want to do some reading...try reading the newest posts on each link. good luck hope something works for this poor kitty

hi again, good info and links on the second posting in the above link I just posted. the antibiotic I was thinking of is called Doxycycline and apparently its effective in 50% of cases. also there is a safer steroid you could try called Atopica 25mg and it seems by one of the posters it was effective in her kitty. good luck
