Puddie is recovering-should I take the kitty back?

by paintsflowers, Aug 29, 2009 03:11PM
Puddie is recovering. he is eating and sleeping more peacefully, using the litter box again. He seems to still be looking for little Gigi who is back at her foster home. My dilemma is: shall I leave things as they are and just keep him as a single, or bring her back?  My original idea was to get him a slightly older companion, mainly for my sake in not having to go through the kitten stage all over. She went under every dresser, up the sofabed, hid in places I never knew existed. I might be projecting my human feelings of loneliness onto him. I have always heard that having two cats is better.
Shall I wait till he is completely healed? I keep thinking that he is sleeping because he is bored and has nobody to chase.
Will appreciate  any feedback.

I'm so happy 4u that puddie is coming around, its such a scare when they r sick and can't tell us whats wrong.
I would give it a few more days paints and get him really back to fully 'normal' b4 u make a decision...taking in another baby is a big responsiblity and u want  2b very sure u want the kitty not keep moving her/him in and out, this will cause kitty some anxiety.....kittens r fun...makes me wish I could have another!!

Thank you for your input. Gigi was the little kitty who was here when he got sick. Do you think he would remember her. It's only been a week since he didn't see her. He seems to be looking all over for her in places she used to hide.
It's so hard to make the right call and be sure.

I agree with opus. Lets make sure Puddie has fully recovered. Another cat, another responsibility, more vet bills? I would think he'd remember Gigi unless, for some reason, her scent has changed. Sometimes, when we take one of our kitties to the vet and they stay there for a few days, the kitty that stays home hisses at the other cat when they see each other again. I suppose because the scent changes, the cats become suspicious. Because we do not know if this will be the case (highly unlikely but possible) and we don't want Puddie to stress after all he has been through, then I guess we can just wait, and after making sure he is back 100%, taking Gigi back would be a great idea!

I was between a rock and a hard place this weekend because the local rescue shelter has to close its doors after 25 yrs due to lack of funds and high vet bills-so I saw Gigi and another gal called Rosie who is 5 mo and has had alk shots, spayed, etc. Since these kitties were all going away to a distant shelter. I borrowed Rosie to see if they blended. Guess what? He woke from his lethargy and they are chasing each other all over the house. Declaring the dominance is the order of the day. I have till Sept 9th to see if she is a keeper. I was so worried that he was so subdued. So far it seems to be good. Am keeping a watchful eye. My friend wanted Gigi to stay with her brother and perhaps get them both adopted. Like you advised, hope I didn't jump too soon. Wish we knew some rich folks to fund the shelter.

God Bless you for having done what you did. That was really kind. I wish you, Puddie, Rosie and Gigi all the best. So Puddie likes his new friend? Great! He seems to be very social, at least with other cats. I hope Gigi and her brother will find a good, loving home. And, I'm sorry the shelter is closing due to lack of funds. I volunteer at Adopt-A-Cat Foundation, which is another no kill shelter just for kitties, and they really are struggling to keep the business going. Lack of funds is an issue over there. All of those kitties will end up paying the consequences. I hope someone or something helps them because they do a great job rescuing those babies.
