ROUGH NIGHT WITH HISSIE

Well my friends I am back again concerning poor little Hissie. She had been doing wonderful since her last vet stay several weeks ago. Eating good, socializing a lot, putting on weight, having bowel movements, etc. We still have her on the Wellness catfood, that she still is really liking. Giving her the two meds as we should daily. Then, in the middle of the night last night, she starts throwing up and straining to have a bowel movement. I saw it all for myself, as she was lying at my feet, while I was on the computer. Threw up several times under the computer desk. Then, went to our bedroom and threw up several more times. I saw her twice last night, straining so hard to have a bowel movement. And she was meowing while attempting to poop. She has never done that before, even with all the trouble we have had with her, the past few months. I clean out her litterbox daily. She has been having bowel movements everyday. I just cleaned out her litterbox several hours, before she got sick last night. She had had bowel movements then in her box, also. Last night though, we gave Hiss her meds. There was some slight liquid poop, when my husband picked her up, to wrap her in the towel, to give her the meds. Then, there was several small spots on the bedroom carpet as well. I have read that with constipation, there can be some seepage, that is liquid like. I am noticing something though and I don't mean to be gross. But, when I clean her litterbox everyday, her poops are 5 or 6 small balls.  And they are very dark colored. I would call the color black. I know meds can effect color of bowel movements. But, Hissie's bowel movements have been like this even before the meds. She has never bled from the rectum. But, I know in humans, black stools are not a good sign...usually means there is blood in the stools. When my husband picked her up tonight so we could give Hissie the meds, her rectum was protruding out some. I am assuming was when she was straining so hard. We have done everything that the vet has told us to do. Those of you that know me by now, know that I am very upset and worried over my Hissie girl...again. Someone posted to me before, that when their cat was so ill, that it took a stressful toll on the pet owner as well. PrettyKitty I think it might have been you. Well, I am to that point as well now. And my poor husband is, too. Hissie is in her kitty bed now and has been for about 3 hrs. I am still up. If Hiss were feeling good right now, she would be out her with me, while I am on the computer. So, I know she is not feeling good. I been up all night. Just cannot sleep because I am worrying over Hiss. At this point, my plan is to put the meds aside, buy the husk today and order the enzyme online today. Like I said, I did it the way the vet wanted. Now I am going to try other alternatives, that I know have worked for other kitties on this forum. Thank you my friends for listening to me....again.

Lynn, I'm so sorry to read of this setback with Hissie.  I logged on realy quick specifically to check this forum hoping I would not see a post from you, but sadly, here you are.

Please know that you and Hissie are in my thoughts.  I too know what it's like to take care of a sick kitty and how stressful it is.  It is very discouraging to have a setback like this.  I know how much you love your girl, but it is very hard emotionally to have them sick, then better, then sick again right when you're thinking you've gotten through the worst.  Very hard.  I so feel for you.

Been dealing with an unexpected emergency, but will have free time tomorrow, so will catch up with you in a PM.

Thinking of you...♥

Honey I am so sorry to hear your old girl isn't feeling so hot lately. I agree with everything you say. Darker stools usually means blood in the stool but it could also be diet or meds. And yes, it was I who went through all that fiasco with my cat Abby having blood in the stool and diarrhea, and it definitely made me stressed. I even lost weight. I know what you're going through dear. I really don't wish to go through that ever again. Yes, it is THAT stressful and frustrating. I followed the vet's advice all the time and my cat did not get better. When I learned my cat needed to stop eating bad (commercial) foods that can potentially KILL animals, that's when I switched to raw diet. Try the husk I recommended, and let us hope everything works out. Try the enzymes, definitely add those to her diet. As to Hissie drooling with blood in the stools, it could be she needs a lower dose. You could also try giving her half a pill, or just a quarter. Just a thought. Too much fiber can cause diarrhea or constipation depending on the individual. So when you give her the husk, bare in mind that too much can also be bad. The blood must be, like you said, due to her trying so hard to evacuate. My vet once said that cats with IBD feel the need to evacuate all the time and that’s what makes it so uncomfortable. They just feel like going potty at all times and evacuate quite frequently. She might be sore, that poor thing. She may not have IBD, but she certainly has digestive issues. Digestive issues are treated with the right diet and supplements, so once you find what’s right for her you’ll be all set. But don’t give up. I found the right diet for m IBD cat, raw, organic chicken or rabbit with all the necessary supplements and so far, after tests and examinations both my vets are pleased with the results. Now, they don’t want me to switch Abby to other foods. One of them will start recommending raw foods for cats with digestive issues. Our CL’s have both recommended this type of diet for cats with megacolon and I definitely recommend it to everyone who owns a cat, but I know buying foods at the supermarket is less time consuming. I’m happy with having to prepare my cats’ foods because I know they’re both thriving on it. When you find the right ‘thing’ for her, you’ll be all set, but don’t give up yet hon. At times I thought I’d have to put my cat to sleep. But knowing there is always something else you could try when it comes to diet, it is totally worth your time and effort to try everything to bring your cat back to health and I’m sure you agree.

I wish you and Hissie all the luck in the world. I am here. PM me if you need to. Jade and Sara are also here for you. The CL’s are always around and I know they wish for Hiss to be well. We truly care about your cat and wish nothing but her recovery. You’re a good momma to that cat. That cat is lucky to have you. Keep the updates coming.

Hopefully, someone out there has other ideas to give you. My lat resort, in your case, would be to take Hiss to a specialist.

I have a good website for you. I will send it to you in a pm. It will help you a lot I’m sure. It has been built by experts in cat nutrition, and I personally keep in touch with some of them.  They’re all current practitioners so I may even give you some contact information if you’d like.
