Sami and his FORL's
as most of you have read Sami had an appointment yesterday to go under anesthesia and got more x-rays done on his teeth. He has a condition called FORLs that the Vet has been watching for a few years..and its progressing. Unfortunately he's getting a referral to a dental surgeon in the city(I've been putting $$ away for 2 yrs for this).....he'll need 6-8 more teeth extracted and they'll have to dig into the gum line and remove all the roots too(at least on some of them)....this is a very painful condition where the tooth/teeth are actually being 'absorbed' into bone and become calcified. I don't know how many trips in and out of the city its going to take, two for sure...one being the consult. than a 2 day'er for the surgery..and layover.

yeah the poor little guy, I feel so bad for him...nothing worse than a toothache and mouth surgery....
its actually quite common, I had never heard of it either....usually only found if dental xrays are preformed, so there mayb many sore kitties out there :(
he got booked in for Oct 17th. we will go to the city the night of the 16th b/c its an early morning consult and the surgery following, he should be able to do it all in the one day, so that helps. the doctor thats doing it is a dental specialist that just flys in 3 days every month. apparently very renown in his field, so he should be in very capable hands....the cost of course will be high, but I'll find it to help my baby.
I will be a nervous wreck when that time nears, and I haven't driven into that city for over 6 or 7 yrs, so this isn't going to be fun. :((

Opus, I am so sorry Sami has to go through all this, and you as well. I had no idea until I read the link what all was involved. Poor Sami! I had never heard of this FORLs before. How soon will he be undergoing this surgery?
