Savas and April2 Please Help!!

At first I didn't think his allergies or whatever it is would represent a major problem but apparently it is becoming a worrying situation. My six month old kitty is losing weight very rapidly as he refuses to eat dry food. Problem is whenever he eats wet food which he totally loves and cries for every single day his stomach can't handle it. He does not tolerate wet food at all. He bleeds through the rectum, cries because it obviously hurts and poops with great difficulty but I don't think it is constipation because what comes out is diarreah (diarrhea) and more diarreah (diarrhea) so he actually cries and poops at the same time. Needless to say, the litter box gets all dirty and the smell is ugh...I'm scared that he will some day in the future have to go through surgery because of this. He won't eat dry food. He takes me to where his bowl is and starts crying for food and it hurts me because I know that the food he likes is not doing him any good.

Having said this, I have tried everything. I have combined both dry and wet food and he just eats the wet food, leaving the dry food completely untouched. I bought gravy but he refuses to eat it. I mix up his dry food and which I have two types: turkey/chicken and tuna/salmon. He wont eat it either. I'm runnign out of ideas. He is also teething so I myself soften his dry food with a bit of water just in case. I don't know if because he is teething dry food makes him uncomfortable or something...I don't know.....I don't know what else to think. Should I take him to the vet? Is there any wet food out there that can actually regulate his digestive system, or help him digest his food? Is there any type of medication I can give him for this problem? I can take him to the vet..that is no problem for me. I don't care about the cost of putting him on any treatment or special diet since the health of my kitty comes first for all of us at home.
Savas, April, please, before taking him to the vet, is there anything I can do? Moreover, should I consider this an emergency situation? He is losing weight and is not even drinking his water which I keep fresh all the time. Thank you.

I would take him to a vet asap. I can't say if you should do a night time service, considering cost, but definitely tomorrow morning.

Anytime you get bleeding rectally you're dealing with anything from ulcer, kidney issues, hemorrhoids, etc...all of which in a cat is a potentially dangerous problem.

i don't want to guess what it may be as those are common symptoms that are to numerous to consider (if a food allergy, the allergy has caused some other condition to develop).

I would say if it's wet food related you may want to consider trying to switch to treat meals of chicken gizzard or scrap fish from the butcher's mixed with white rice (not that pricey, is actually cheaper than wet food, just inconvenient to get and prepare...but kitty will probably declare you God Above! :)  )

Bedtimestory, I'm sorry, I just saw your post! I'm so sorry to hear about Abby. I hope that you have taken him to the vet. I agree with Savas. I think he needs to be seen.
I don't know what kind of vet service you have but I go to the one in PetSmart-Bansfield. When I found out Sweet Pea had diarhea (diarrhea) and got her tested along with the other two cats, I found out they all tested postive for Giardia, which is a parasite that lives in the intestine. My vet recommended a wet food that you buy by prescription that was supposed to be easy on the digestion and tummy. So I'm giving all three cats this right now until their symptoms are gone. It's called Feline i/d by Hill's prescription diet. I guess it tastes pretty good because they all like it. You can buy it at any PetSmart but it is by presription from your vet. It cost me about $7 for 6 cans but I give a half can in the morning and a half a can in the evening per each cat. So that would be about a can a day for you or a dollar a day. I don't know if that would cost too much for you or even if it's something that your vet would recommend. I'm sure he'll recommend something easy to digest for awhile until you find out what's going on.
Poor kitty. I hope he feels better soon. Please let us know as soon as you find out what's going on, ok?
I'll say a little prayer for your kitty. God bless.

Thank you so much guys for the quick response. I find this a little odd. I mean in the wild, cats eat wet food. It's the most natural type of food for them. If my Abby eats dry food then it's all good: no diarreah (diarrhea), no bleeding, no pain, no crying. However, he refuses to eat dry food and he is losing weight because he is not eating. I just checked and he is actually dyhidrated. The first time I saw him bleeding through the rectum I took him to the vet. I told her I was giving him a mixture of wet and dry food. She just told me he was fine and that the bleeding was due to the diarreah (diarrhea). She said it was not a big deal, checked his area with a thin long "something" but he didn't cry, so she said it was external bleeding caused by the diarreah (diarrhea). She said not to give him wet food anymore. But this can't be right. I mean I don't understand how a cat can have wet food allergies. I'll seek a second opinion tomorrow. I'll take him to another vet hospital see what the problem is. He is right here on the bed looking at me and trying to sleep, poor thing. Whenever I get up he'll start asking for food, specifically wet food. When I put dry food in the bowl he meows even louder...wont eat it. If I give him wet food then the story changes. I'm praying that this is just him being spoiled and an annoying little kitty. Lets see what the vet tells me. I'll keep you posted. Thank you so much.

April, I read about sweet pea. In fact, I have been keeping myself updated by reading all your posts about her and your daughter's kitty. I have read all about seet pea, from her pregnancy news to her current condition with the parasites. I wanted to log in to communicate to you how sorry I was but the system wouldn't let me. From the bottom of my heart I hope sweet pea and your other cats get better. It's good news your dog is clean. I'm getting another cat you know. I'm totally in love with these fellas. I mean I had cats growing up but never had a chance to actually care for them like I do with Abby. Please keep us updated on sweet pea's progress. Thank you for your support.

Savas...I'd be lost without you lol. Thank you for sharing what you know. God bless you. I'll keep you posted.

Well I could finally speak with the vet over the phone. The doctor said that Abby's unwillingness to even taste dry food may be related to some sort of oral disease. I'm supposed to take him to the vet on Friday. He told me to keep mixing dry and wet food to prevent the diarreah (diarrhea) but anyways he was going to check on Abby's allergic condition too. I told the vet Abby chews food on one side of the mouth, drops food while eating and prefers wet food but does not have bad breath. That's when the vet said his problem might be related to oral disease.

I do not get it!!!! I even give him treats that control plaques and tartar and all of that. I select his foods very carefully and I always chose the foods with the least or no amounts of preservatives or artifical ingredients, always making sure the food content will be the best for my cat's entire system. I buy Science Diet and Natural Balance. I am very sad for him. It seems no matter how much I take care of him, he'll always have some problem from time to time. ugh...

Don't feel bad. It could be genetic or something. I'm sure they'll find out what's wrong and fix him up in a jiffy. You should have your cat back to normal in no time! :) Keep us updated.
