thats a good question, Buddy's condition is IMO an allergic reaction to something, that as I've said above can be dust/mites/chemicals/food and perhaps could also be medications...if he should have an allergy to the particular medication used???
I will give you a site to read up on side effects....you will need to find out the names of the medications used and read up on them...ok
http://www.marvistavet.com/html/pharmacy_center.html
I've juat got one question....do you think that Buddy's hair loss and scabs are from all the medication he took a while ago????...He had two different kinds but he had them for a very long time???????
Thankyou again for your help I've found that colloidal silver at the health food store but I had to order it, so it will be here in a week or so,,,fingers crossed..Thankyou
Budmy...soaking sure why not? won't hurt.
FurballsM....what kind of allergies does Akira have?.....♥
Hello again....Just wondering if I still have to clean Buddy's paws with salt water still before I put his treatment on?
Will colloidal silver help with the cat's allergies? I don't like it that she is on steroids. I avoid giving it to her and try to only deal with the 1/4 tablet of Zyrtec as much of the time as possible. I don't want Akira to get Diabetes or thyroid issues.
hi Budmy....unfortunately TRUE colloidal silver that is recommended for cats isn't easy to find...in fact there are only 2 on the list I have. many are sold as CS(colloidal silver) yet are iconic silver which is a low grade manufactured product and much cheaper...and probably of little use.
Phone all the health product suppliers in your area if they don't have these 2 recommended brands than you will have to order.....................SHOOT I JUST REALIZED YOU LIVE IN AUSTRALIA....to order from iherb, and I'm not sure if they ship CS internationally?????....I really don't think so...shoot...
so I hope you can locate these brands within your area...
http://www.iherb.com/Source-Naturals-Wellness-Colloidal-Silver-30-PPM-8-fl-oz-236-56-ml/1492?at=0
another recommended brand for kitties is Mesosilver 20.
I am so sorry if I complicated this further for you, I didn't realize your in Australia, some countries don't even allow CS to be sold, you'll have to check with a good health store(homeo probably)...
let me know ok, if not we'll have to come up with some other treatment plan for Buddy.♥
Thankyou!!!!. it's the weekend tomorrow and I'll be able to buy some colloidal silver tomorrow....So i'll put it on his tootsie's and scabs tommorrow and hopefully I can get some results...Thankyou so much again!!!
Steroids are only avail thru a Vet....again I stress use only as a very LAST RESORT, steroids can and do cause diabetes among other problems with kitties.
Your Vet MAY have already administered a shot of this initially? Steroids will sometimes help, usually they are pretty short acting b/c they don't address the cause and are determent to the the immune system...
They can be valuable if kitty has a deep seated infection but they are NOT useful for a fungus.
This advice is IMO only, always consult your Vet for his opinion too.

Hello again!!!...Where would I get the steriods????
hi again.
IMO what has happened is Buddys ringworm has spread from his body to his feet, and with all the constant licking and dampness its become very resistant.
With the medication he is seeing only 'some' improvement. Poor fella he is suffering terribly.
I will give you my thoughts and quotes from a holistic book I follow and you can decide from there ok.
This is a fungus, CONVENTIONAL TREATMENTS such as internal medications and steroids can suppress the immune system, and this in rebound can foster an environment for the fungus to thrive.
I will suggest you try these steps and I think you will see a great improvement.
-before starting this topical treatment, first clip the hair around the sore paws as much as possible to expose to the light and air as fungus thrives in damp and dark areas, clip toe nails also.(short but not below the quick)
-dispose of all clipped hair and nails carefully so to not further spread the fungi.
-vacuum the area were you've done the grooming.
-wash all the cats bedding, dishes, utensils, floors tiles and all areas your cat comes into contact with such as perches, litter areas and window sills often, with hot water and soap..along with 1 part BLEACH to 10 parts water...(a cat safe soap if possible..from pet store 'Dr. Bronner's Castille..unscented)------OR since bleach is so hard on kitty's lungs its best to use diluted COLLOIDAL SLIVER.
COLLOIDAL SILVER is an anitmicrobial and has shown to produce ANTIFUNGAL effects...its avail at health food stores!!
You can buy a large bottle for abt$30.
It is one of the SAFEST and MOST EFFECTIVE ways to deal with ringworm/fungus.
BUY a bottle in high concentration....100+ ppm(parts per million) and use it topically on his paws 5-6x a day....just dap it on, no need to soak paws...
IF yu can get ahold of Wellness or Source Naturals brand they are best, otherwise buy from a reputable health food store and get one with NO or the lowest silver proteins
I use this myself on my Sami who has ECG scab outbreaks on his face and it works wonders for him.
this will work as well as or better than any of the conventional medications and alot less harmful.
you can also supplement with OMEGA 3 fatty acids. the best sources for cats are Carlson or Nordic Naturals brands you can give 1-2 1000mg soft gels a day for awhile.(avail at iherb.com)
I sure hope this can be of some help to poor Buddy, please keep us updated on his condition or if we can try to help answer more questions...

I will get back and talk more about the paw issue later today, right now I need to be away for a few hours.....I am thinking the paws may clear up with a change in litter perhaps, but we will talk on that more this afternoon.

I am very new to this site and are still learning. Actually I have no idea what I am doing!!! HA! Do I just write to you or there is a way that everybody can see what I wrote and they will respond aboout what symptons I am writting???????
Thankyou for your help, I'll definetley will be trying that!!!....But if you could please also help me with his paws too....they are still infected (nothing compare to what they were with the hair loss & being all bloody), but they're still a little swollen and pus is still coming out of some of his toes under the nail area. The vet has told me to use warm salted water which is helping but in a very slow way and even though he is still wearing a bucket on his head he still manages to get to his right paw and lick it (which i asume that it is itchy which means it is healing) and a little betadine 50/50 with water betweeen the toes. One toe has completely healed but when I'm cleaning them with the salt water and getting what pus I can get out, he's squeeling alot because he's in a lot of pain. I can only seem to do it when my partner is holding him. It's so upsetting me when he squeels, but he seems to understand that I'm helping him at the same time. Can you please also shed some light onto this situation for me please....I want my Buddy boy the way he was and have his life back. thankyou
p.s. Just to let you know that they are a lot better than they were. He does walk around a whole lot better than he did before. Not much walking before happened I pretty much had to carry him.
Thankyou.
Sincerely Yours
Elizabeth (Budmyster)
hi and welcome to our cat forum, I don't know if all your kitties symptoms are related or not?
I wouldn't recommend giving milk or any sort to kitty.
And I really don't like the use of betadine either.
there are better products out there we can tell you about if the ringworm returns...or go to the top of this page and do a symptom search on ringworm and it will bring up the archives with more info...personally I like colliodial silver(topically)
As far as the hair loss, thats usually an allergy, to litter, dust, pollen, food etc.
when it shows up on the feet like that I would suspect litter...try a change, non scented.
since you mention tiny scabs present, it could be ECG (eosinophilic granuloma complex)...also an immune system response to 'something' either that kitty is eating or in his enviroment.
I will give you some links to read on and see some photos, after you've read these come back if you have more questions....good luck and please don't give up, this is solvable.
