Small wound will not heal

Hello,
I am usually on the pregnancy forum, but I thought someone here could help.
I have a wonderful cat named Horton and he is 4 -1/2 years old.  He has developed a small pencil eraser size wound on his back heel that doesn't seem to go away.  I never see him lick it, but he does like to jump from the top of our armoire to a hardwood floor and it always sounds like he lands hard.
Do you think this jumping is keeping his wound from healing and i does anyone have some suggestions before I go through the trauma of taking him to the Vet.
thanks,
Lisa

I am not treating the wound becasue it starts to look like it is drying up and healing, but then he jumps down from the Armoire or does other crazy cat things and suddenly I see small circles of blood/pus on the floor or furniture.  Then I have to hunt him down and check his boo boo and it is open again.
I would treat it with neosporine, but I dont want him licking his wound which could irritate it.
I guess he's off to the vet this week.

How does the wound look? Infected? Are there any new scabs? Is it bleeding? Is there any pus? Can you post a picture of the wound? What are you treating it with?

Hi, welcome to the forum!  If your cat has had that wound for 10 days and it hasn't healed yet, I would take him to the vet.  You just want to make sure that it's not a skin tumor.  I know it's no fun taking cats to the vets, but it's better to be safe than sorry.

Good luck!
