Stuff in the ear.

Okay so i noticed bam really trying to scratch at his ear today and i thought it was strange...So i sat him down and took a flash light and tried opening it up as much as i could without hurting him and as i looked in there i saw just like this wall of black brown(the regular type of color) thingy. It kind of looked like as if it was a wax clog. Could a cat get a wax clog in his ear? like the way humans do??? If not then does it sound like anything at all...Its not mites because bam saw the vet recently...and its not yeast because of the same reason(the et said so)...But the vet did say he had a slight bacteria and prescribed him the peroxide drops...He hates having those put in his ear and right now i kind of get the feeling his ear kind of hurts....So i dont want to put those drops in unless you guys tell me its okay...Im gonna call the vet tomorrow too...Thanks everyone.

So sorry Bam and you are in a very trying situation!

I  back up NancyJac on the peroxide thing.  Ear infections aside, I am prone to wax build up. After years of using peroxide to clean ears ...was sent to an  ENT, who told me that putting peroxide in ears...as I had been told to do by GP was just making wax hard. He had tools to clean out the debris....and told me to use mineral oil occasionally for problem.

Maybe peroxide kills bacteria...don't know.  Hope you all don't have to do the ear wash thing for much longer.

So we went to the vet and the doc said he just had some bacteria. She still told me to use that peroxide wash and the some medicine after 2 weeks of washing the ear. So yeah...He is totally fine now that i have been forcing him to get his ears washed :)

Well so the vet called back and said they recomend an exam because it is most likely an infection and that they will try working things out with us financially, which is always pleasant to hear. So it looks like a ride in the car for bam...He hates those.Last time he peed himself which sucked...and he will not let us put him in a crate so we have to carry him...UGHHHH hahaha he is a 20+lb guy...it gets tough. Anyways...sorry for just yapping on and on,I will let everyone know what they tell me at the vets today.

Yeah I called the vet just a minute ago and they said they will give me a call back when the vet is out of seeing the new patient. He said that he doesnt think its mites and that they will probably have to prescribe the same dropps...which would be stupid since we have that already and the cytology costs like 60 bucks plus the dropps. Im not cheap or anything,im just saying. Well bam doesnt let us touch his ear at the moment and i tried massaging his ear canal and that made like a liquidy sound...Like liquid moving inside, popping kind of...He screams and cries when we touch it though.

Kandy...ear mites can set the stage for infections..than the ear drum can rupture and its dangerous to use ear drops.
the Vet needs to do an ear swab to see if its mites only OR mites plus infection.

If its mites alone. it takes 3 weeks for them to go from egg to adult....than they can start reproducing right away and the cycle keeps going.

therefore its necessary to treat for a minimum of 4 weeks. IF an infection is present than antibiotics are also necessary.

so please take this kitty back to your Vet for proper treatment.
good luck

If all of this stuff was in your cat's ears when you took him to the vet, why didn't the vet clean it out.  And why would he prescribe hydrogen peroxide for a bacterial infection?  Not really sure why he would prescribe hydrogen peroxide regardless since it turns into water in his ears which could make the situation worse.   I would suggest you clean his ears with mineral oil and cotton swabs and get a second opinion for another vet.  From your description it sounds like ear mite eggs and discharge.
